Former Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), who once filed legislation to end the United States' participation in the United Nations, is now turning to the international organization for help in obtaining two domain names, the Texas Tribune reported Monday.

The former presidential candidate and congressman filed a complaint Friday with the World Intellectual Property Organization, a United Nations agency, against the owners of RonPaul.com and RonPaul.org so he could gain control of the domains, according to a blog post published on the site.

His supporters are not pleased with Paul's actions.

Shocked and angered supporters cited Paul’s move as a betrayal of the libertarian principles he has espoused. The website owners reportedly offered to sell the domain name, RonPaul.com, and the 170,000-person mailing list for $250,000 — kicking in RonPaul.org for free — saying that was the free market solution to settle the dispute.

But rather than buy the domains, Paul decided to take his grievances to the organization he railed against during his many years in Congress

Umm he has trademarked his name and shouldn't have to pay for his domain name. Then the only reason he has to go to a UN agency is because they registered it in a foriegn country and he has no choice. They have jurisdiction.

There's still some legal grey area, but for the most part, trademark law has already been ruled as binding over domain registration. They're essentially asking him to pay for what he already owns. Grabbing something that legally belongs to someone else, and then demanding they pay for it is anything but "free market" RP is looking to resolve the issue through the organization with jurisdiction over the issue. No ideology is in conflict.

But as far as the P-nuts go, RP's just reaping what he's sown over the years.

Why did spending in his county quadruple from 1999 to 2009? Why does spending in his district top the average per capita federal spending in 46 of the 50 states?

In 2010, when the Tea Party congress voluntarily decided to stop using earmarks, why was Ron Paul one of only 4 GOP congressmen to continue using them?

Why does he specify which contractor will get the earmark money? Why not use a more free-market solution, and let contractors bid on the job?

Why did he increase public transit spending in his own district (to the tune of $750,000) but claims to be against public transportation?

Why is he against FEMA, but demanded FEMA housing for those displaced by hurricanes in his own district?

Why did he critcise Tip O'Neill for riding around in an expensive government Lincoln Towncar, yet ended up crusing around in one himself?

Also - why did he call MLK one of his "heroes" in a recent speech, yet published a newsletter claiming MLK was a gay marxist pedophile?

I'm not a Ron Paul supporter and really don't know a lot about him other then he is the libertarian poster politician. But sticking to the issue he has no choice but to use the governing body that out govt has given jurisdiction to. It would be like saying if you think your local school board should be disbanded and everyone gets money for private school vouchers, that you think are a hypocrit if you send you kid to public school when thats all govt helps you with. You can be against FEMA even and still request money from them when your area needs it. You are stuck working with the machines the govt sets up. You can say i don't like it, try and change it, but often you are stuck with it.

"Working within the system" could explain a lot. A libertarian has to use public roads. A marxist has to sell his books.

But it does not explain quadrupling spending to $4 billion, cronyism, pork-barrel spending, fancy taxpayer cars, or any of the above.

Right here. Going to the UN for the rights to a domain name is no big deal. Symbolically it ticks of many of RP's supporters I don't really care. He's just trying to get the rights to a domain name without haveing to pay through the nose for it.
