Now having said that, even if Donovan had made it he wouldn't have started so we are getting all bent out of shape over maybe him subbing in for a game with 15 minutes left. Not that big a deal. My biggest concern is does this cause some division in the locker room or between Klinsmann and some of the players. For a couple years now he has been preaching it's about how you play...but then he puts an 18 year old on the roster who hasn't played for his club team or the national team.
I think Julian Green was switched to the US with a assurance he'd have a ticket. Just my opinion, but its a look to the future. That said, there's some excitement to his game, even at his age. Against Mexico he def took his lumps, but showed flashes of the future. Im all for it.

But what if that 15 mins is a factor in needing to score a goal or holding possession?

Agree as in what has Julian accomplished?

To add to general comments.. Brad Davis? What has he done? He's "old" if you wanna go that route.

Freddy Adu should've made it though.

I agree with you. I'm saying he made 3-4 decisions that don't make sense to me...not just the Donovan one

I really only watch the premier league but afriend of mine who is a soccer nut and a Bayern fan is of the opinion that Green is better than Donovan right now. He is raw to be sure but has great speed, technical skill, and is already a good finisher is more or less his conclusion.

I'm surprised Donovan isn't at least on the team to come of the bench - even if he's not a starter he is the perfect player to bring on at 65 min - kind of like James Milner for Man City. Maybe Donovan wasn't willing to take a backseat?

With the US in such a tough group need to have the most physically talented player out there IMO to give us any chance of advancing.

I think this is true. I love Donovan and I think he's the greatest U.S. soccer player we've ever produced. He's a shell of himself these days. I like that we're not carrying players for "leadership". He's going to put the best 11 out there that he can.. and we're going to need it.

I feel much better than I did a week ago.

Everything is riding on the Ghana game. If we win that I think we have about a 50% chance of getting out of the group. Lose or tie and it's a real long shot.

Same here. I am excited as well. Ribery is out for the les bleus. Oh well. Kinda feel the dark horse run is shattered now. Hopefully the French can get out of the group stages.

That second goal was a thing of beauty. It showed off his ability and was world class strike.

The betting odds on USA getting out of the group were 1/100 a week ago. I wish I was in vegas, I would drop $100 on that easy, probably more. I know its a long shot, but I think USA is better than they give them credit for.

and I am also excited for green. Hopefully he thrives in the 2018 world cup

That game was awesome! Took my 5 year old boy and he just loved it. We were 20 rows up on the 20 yard line for Jozy's 2nd goal.

Great day, lots of fun and I hope he's going to remember it as much as I am going to treasure the time together.

No that's not right. My parents were just there and it was 6/1. 100/1 was to win it all

Makes sense. 100/1 to get out of the group stage people would be slinging money left & right at the chance.

Had a chance for a 3rd goal but Dempsey? decided to go 1v1 versus passing to him.

Yeah, it was Dempsey, Jozy would have just had to tap it in. They had no defenders back and just them 2 vs the keeper.

I'm predicting some major infrastructure failure in Brasil...

They just don't seem even close to ready, on top of that there is a transit worker strike and a lot of civil unrest.

I really am afraid that there will be some major issues that will affect the games.

Great video from John Oliver about the power of the World Cup, and even though we hate what FIFA is doing, we will watch anyways.
