Ryan Leaf Sentenced To Five Years In Prison For Violating Terms Of Probation

LUBBOCK, Texas — Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf has been sentenced to five years in prison in Texas for violating terms of his probation.

A Texas prosecutor says the former San Diego Chargers quarterback and Washington State standout won’t have to serve any time behind bars in Texas because of time he’s served in Montana. Leaf violated his Texas probation when he ran afoul with the law in Montana for breaking into a home to steal prescription drugs. He pleaded guilty for felony burglary and criminal possession of a dangerous drug in 2012.

Leaf’s attorney Bill Kelly III said the Texas judge gave Leaf credit retroactively for his Montana prison time. The 38-year-old has been granted parole but has not been released.

He was a quarterbacks coach for Division II West Texas A&M.

Looks like he will be getting out soon. Hopefully, he can turn his life around. He needs to just move to Colorado and become a stoner on a skateboard.

I partied a few time with this guy in college. One of my good friends was a O-lineman at WSU. Anyways it just blows me away that he turned into such a **** . He was just a normal cocky athlete. Pretty decent person.

Regional probation and parole administrator Dawn Handa told the Great Falls Tribune on Thursday that Leaf was terminated from the Nexus Treatment Center in Lewistown after violating the conditions of the placement, including threatening a staff member.

Leaf was charged with breaking into two houses and stealing prescription painkillers. He pleaded guilty to burglary and criminal possession of dangerous drugs. He was sentenced in June to five years with the Department of Corrections with the recommendation that he spend the first nine months in a locked drug treatment facility.

Leaf also faces the revocation of a 10-year probationary sentence for a 2010 drug and burglary conviction in Texas.

Ryan Leaf's life is such a mess, I don't think it'll ever be normal again...
I see no happy ending on this one...

I have a close relative with almost the exact same story. Top draft choice in a major sport only to somehow crash all the way to jail time instead. It snowballs. Endless cycle into sorrow and eventually prison. It's usually the parent's fault for not keeping them on the straight and narrow at the beginning. Often times it's the parents themselves counting all the big money. But then eventually the kid has to grow up at some point and take responsibility which many of these spoiled individuals find nearly impossible to do. It really is amazing to see the shiat storm that surrounds these kids with all world talent as they're coming up. The feeling of entitlement. The people that hang onto you. The fact that everyone knows you and thinks you got money, but you're actually flat broke still. Often in severe pain from injuries. It doesn't take much for everything to go sideways in a hurry. Doesn't help matters when the person is a natural a-hole either.

Mods, move this thread to the off-topics forum. Leaf hasn't played in the NFL for 12 years.

It was all Griese's fault for beating Leaf in the rose bowl. It snowballed from there.

The little known Brian Griese effect.

The problem with things like this is that everyone is too busy glad handed, sucking up or swelling up the person's head trying to stay on their good side instead of forcing them to face reality and get help.

The people you surround yourself with should have your best interests at heart. Both from a career and personal perspective.
If they don't, you need a new circle of friends.

Sometimes you have to shock and awe some mother****ers to really get the ship right again.

People are being too whiny, they needed this.

Ryan Leaf is a douche, but I hope he beats his demons and conquers his addiction.

I take that back, I guess you never conquer it, as it will always be creeping around the corner waiting for a moment of weakness....he can't let his guard down or he could be right back to where he started.
