Figure we're keeping everything 'central' and the draft forum hasn't picked up yet. Whose a guy the Broncos can look to target in rounds 1-4 that could step in and be a big play slot guy for us (ala Cruz in 2011)?

If you're gonna go in with a first, why not just take Cruz from the Giants? Cost some money but at least he contributes next season.

The guy wants #1 money, at least 10 mil a year. I doubt he gets that. The Giants FO is tough but even at a lower rate we can't afford him.

Tavon Austin. He's the closest thing to Harvin since, well, Harvin if you ask me.

Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey are 2 options.
One guy who could be interesting project would be Denard Robinson. |

Mid rounds, Rashad Ross of ASU.
Can be a dual threat as a WR and Kick returner as well. |

His only chance in the NFL is to be a WR/RB, unless it turns out he can play CB which is doubtful. I think he has a decent shot at becoming a solid WR if he can catch. And by solid WR, I mean #3 WR at best who goes deep/catches screens.

Dang forgot about Swope, he'd be a good candidate too. |

DeAndre Hopkins from Clemson. He can play outside or the slot. He raped LSU for 13 catches 191 yards and 2 TDs in the bowl game. It was a joke that he wasn't All-American. i don't know what he'll time in the 40, but he plays fast.

Tavon Austin. But he would have to be taken with our first. Amendola or welker in fa seem like better bets...

Denard Robinson with a 4th rounder. Kid could be a dynamic play maker as a slot WR/RB hybrid.

Donnie Avery would be the best FA slot WR we could get IMO...bang for your buck. Dude is fast, 4.3 speed even though he claims he ran a 4.27 40. He had 60 catches 781 yards and 3 TDs last year. He signed a 1 year 615K contract with the Colts last year. That is more then Caldwell signed for.

robinson intrigues me as a randle el type. but I don't think he's polished enough to make a big impact in the manning offense for a couple years..

You can't go wrong with either of the West Virginia WR's but I think Austin will be gone in the 1st or early 2nd, too high for the Broncos. I like the idea of Stedman Bailey in the 3rd much better. Polished route runner, great hands, tons of speed and he's full of big plays. I'd stay away from the USC kid. He's 6-1 and 180 soaking wet. That's not compact enough for a slot guy IMO. Randy Moss could get away with being a slinky because he was an outside deep threat guy who didn't take many big shots. That slot guy is gonna get hit.

lots of options for the slot. they don't have to be just smallish guys.
Hopkins,Woods,Patterson,Hunter,Williams,Allen,Aust in are all guys you can use and a 3rd WR and slot guy who can help further elevate the passing game. though a sleeper i like, Maquise Goodwin from Texas. cat quick little slot dot who can also return kicks and punts. Wheaton from Oregon St is another guy who is a nice WR and could play the slot for us. Last edited by Lestat; 01-16-2013 at 06:41 PM.. |

I have no interest in a skill position guy who is not ready to step in immediately.
