The MVP has come from the winning team every year except 1971, when Dallas Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley won the award despite the Cowboys' loss in Super Bowl V to the Baltimore Colts

So 12+ month rehab v. career over. Yeah, not that hard to pick the more impressive comeback.
I wasn't addressing Manning's injury. I was pointing out the flaw in your obesrvation that Peterson never came back from anything. That's completely untrue.

He was likely speaking in terms of the present. Just because it was possible 40 years ago, doesn't mean it's still possible.

So Peterson made Ponder better?

That's not really true. Ponder isn't a very good QB. The reason he had 3 TD passes (one was to Peterson, btw) is because the defense focuses so much on Peterson.

He missed four games, comeback player should miss more than four games regardless of injury, and otherwise he didn't really come "back". If Peterson had suffered the same injury in week 17 last year would you still want him winning comeback player of the year without actually missing time or dropping off performance-wise? That's kinda the requirement of the award.

I'd give the award to JJ Watt now. I think all the votes are already in though
