Default KC: The worst Head coaching vacancy

Before the 2012 season started, some prognosticators saw the Chiefs as the favorites to win the AFC West. So, after a 2-14 finish, it was no surprise that Romeo Crennel was fired. We were all fooled. Even with five Pro Bowl players, the talent on the roster was badly over-estimated; long strings of losses followed. The good news for the new coach is that Kansas City has the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. The bad news is that there is no Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III out there, and no one is a lock to be selected first. That might make trading the pick for the future difficult. In addition, the new coach would have to consider the power structure. As of now, Scott Pioli is the general manager. But his status could change, maybe even after the coach is hired. Could a coach take the job while facing the prospect of possibly having a boss who didn't hire him? A lot of questions surround a massive rebuilding job in Kansas City. The next person will have to win back a frustrated and cynical fan base.

The Chiefs have a decent defense with a great run game. I feel all they need is a QB and they are ready to make a run at the playoffs next year.

There is a lot of talk about how Cowboys are feed up with Romo. I don't believe that is the case, but it could happen and a trade is possible.

All reports say Reid is going to be a Chief

This is funny considering all the talk on Boston radio yesterday morning was the consensus belief among local "experts" that KC was actually the best of the vacancies.....for the reasons SleepingTiger mentions above (great running game and decent defense....just a QB away, etc.).

The Raiders probably were the worst place for a long time and they had no difficulty finding someone to step in every year. It's the NFL. People will come, Ray.

Bad drafting should have taken cae of Pioli as well..................

Reid won't help much without better talent and better drafting and tightass Hunt to release the purse strings.

All you guys are wrong about Charles............he will last about as long as LJ did in KC...........................over RATED, disappears for games at a time scatback like CJ.

Schefter and Mort say Reid to KC pretty much a done deal:

Jamal Charles might be over rated, but I will take him over any of our RB.

Ummm, ok. They have a great running game right now and there's no way to deny that. Their running game was ranked #1 in the entire league in 2010 and #5 this year.

2011, when Charles sat out the year, they were ranked #15.

Imo Reid's a poor fit. Lives and dies by the passing game, cannot clock manage, has poor knowledge of Defence and loathes running the ball. His legacy was largely tied to McNabb imo, i don't know would i trust him to sort out a QB situation. Lovie would have been a much better choice.

KC is probably one of the best HC gigs available. You aren't stuck with a deadbeat QB like Cutler, they are solid pretty much everywhere but are missing a QB. If your a guy like Reid you can draft your QB this year.

I think they're more ideal than most. Chicago and SD are above them because they have a QB but KC does have some good things. They have a great RB, DE, and CB. All they are missing is a LT and QB from having the building blocks in place.

Reid plus a guy like Alex Smith could make things interesting in KC next year.

Anyone remember last year when Chiefs fans were saying that if Peyton Manning was serious about winning a Superbowl, he'd have joined the up-and-coming Chiefs and not the downtrodden Broncos?

Feels good man. Feels good.

Same people who had chiefs as the "sexy pick" for the AFC west...instead we won more than 6 times as many games as them

I think Reid does have a reputation that could get them a stronger look from many free agents. I'm very interested to see what direction Reid goes with the QB situation. Draft Geno Smith or Barkley? Trade for Alex Smith or Matt Flynn? Take Vick with him?

Reid is a tired retread. KC has used tired retreads for a long, long time at the HC spot. Haley wasn't one, but he was a McDouche. KC doesn't seem to be able to get out of the box in determining whats best for their organization.

I would actually put the Chargers below the Chiefs. The weather is both a blessing and a curse. It would be great to have home games (and practices) in San Diego. However, the new coach would have to win back a very apathetic fan base. There's too much other stuff to do, in San Diego...

Mularkey has been fired? Last I heard that coaching position is not available. Worst GM opening ya, but worst coaching is KC.

Looks like Reid is getting close to it too

LDS ties to Missouri area make sense for Reid too.
