Is a Denver vs Patriots playoff game really the Super Bowl? - The Orange Mane

I got to looking at the playoff scenarios today and this potential game got me jazzed up. So much so that I wondered if even the Super Bowl could top it in terms of the quality of the teams playing in it.

If Denver was to win it would be another rematch game for them with them presumably playing Houston (it would not surprise me to see them upset). I like Denver in that rematch even traveling to their place. We are a far superior team to the one that played them at the beginning of the year and only lost by 6.

New England has already shown that they can scorch the Texans and will fare well in that game.

From their I don't see an NFC team that I would pick over either Denver or New England. I know that the Broncos lost to Atlanta already but, once again, that was the beginning of the year. And the Patriots did just lose to the 9ers but I would expect the Patriots to win 8 out of 10 times against them (especially with an untested QB). You could maybe make the case for Green Bay who, like us, struggled early in the season and have since then gone 8-1 since starting 2-3.

To see anyone except Manning or Brady holding the Lombardi at the end of the year would be a surprise.

I would pick San Francisco over the Pats on a neutral field...they just beat the Pats in their own home, so how could you not?

This question was fair game back when the NFC beat the AFC 16 years in a row. Then, the Dallas/San Fran match up was really the game that put the two best teams on the field.

You can't say that about the NFL now.

My belief is that the Pats would beat them more times than not, especially now that Belli has game film to look at.

I honestly feel as a whole, the NFC is stronger.
The AFC is some real duds out there. Yuck.

But the top AFC teams match up very well with the top NFC teams.

Agree with you on everything 100%. It's the NFL and with playoffs being just one game instead of a series obviously you never know but NE and Denver are the two best teams in the NFL. Nobody would beat either of those teams in a 3 out of 5 series.

I agree we would be the favorite in the Super Bowl and the favorite against Houston

The 49ers just beat the Pats, who were playing at home. The score would have been worse if they hadn't squandered so many first half opportunities or gone to a soft zone in the second half.

Green Bay is on a tear and getting healthy again. And let's not forget they smashed the Texans.

Seattle's on some kind of a roll.

The Falcons just squashed the defending champs.

Whichever of those teams makes it to the SB will belong there.

I think top to bottom the NFC is more competitive and has more "good" playoff teams

I think the cream of the AFC can hang with anyone though

So no I dont think the winner of the Broncos Pats game(if there is one) should necessarily be favorites

I think San Fran has proven then can disrupt New Englands offense

IMO the Pats & 9ers are the ones to beat. Broncos & Packers will be there to put up a challenge. Texans & dirty birds will put up a fight.

There are 5 teams that I don't see much space between:

1. Broncos
2. Pats
3. 49ers
4. Texans
5. Packers

Honorable mention to the Seahawks.

I think the playoffs this year are going to be *brutal*.

Maybe I am in the minority here but I just don't see an NFC team that scares the bajebus out of me if we went up against them. Especially if we can hold onto the #2 seed and get the bye week to rest some players. I think that if we can get past N.E. then we are set.

Only if Denver beats NE 24 -21 in an OT game in the AFC title game & then goes on to win the SB 42-3. In that case, then yes the SB was the AFC title game.

They would have to play each other in the divisional round not the AFCCG.

Confidence is great. Overconfidence is not.

While Denver is one of the top teams this year, I don't see them being an overwhelming favorite over any of the top NFC teams ( GB, SF, Atlanta, Whoever out of the East) , and possibly would be the underdog against two.

And first we have to get past the AFC, and particularly NE.

At that level its all about matchups and ability to take the other team out of its game. We would not match up well against SF, in particular, as they are a dual threat to run ( Gore, Kaepernick) or pass, with a VERY good defense.

Assuming that going TO the Superbowl is going to mean WINNING It is Overconfidence In CAPS. Foolish. We can be beat by any of those teams, esepcially if we turn it over.

All the teams in the NFC playoffs will have a shot. in the AFC, it comes down to half the field: Denver, Houston, and New England.

I agree. I was going to put the steelers in that group because you can never count them out, but it looks like they have so much turmoil and chaos there which is un-steeler like. Usually they are a pretty tight organization.
