AP on the Dan Patrick show said he is chasing Dickerson's rushing record. He has to average around 165 a game to get there which is very tough, but he has the chops to do it. That said, I still think it would be a record with an asterisk as I think Dickerson's is, as nobody has eclipsed 2000 yard after 14 games as OJ did (AP would need 400 yards in week 14 to get there, so that ain't happening. Thoughts?

AP is gonna make a run for all time rushing yards IMO. I think by the time that cat is done, he's gonna hold many NFL rushing records. He's a special special special type of RB.

hopefully AD breaks the record.
IMO Dickerson was a great RB, but he left a ton of yards on the field to avoid contact. |

Not being a homer, but Terrell davis's 2000 yard season was considered by many who dont just look at yard totals as the best.
He sat out MANY games, I've read somewhere the time he sat out equaled like 3-4 games. Another thing to take in account was that he scored 24 TD's that year. Dickerson and OJ did it in 4 less games also.. AP is getting alot of credit and hype, but alot of that has to do with the fact he came back from injury... |

It's going to be tough. The next rushing defenses he faces are ranked
Rams 13th Texans 2nd Packers 15th AD went nuts on Tampa, who was ranked number 1, but they aren't a good defense. Teams just throw on them because it's easier. I'm sure the Texans won't let him and the Packers will key on him too. It would be an awesome thing to see happen. Crazy thought: The Rushing and sack record falling in the same season? It could happen. |

I'm calling it, AD goes nuts for 324 yards and 4 TD's vs. the Rams.
"Held" to 115 yards and 1 TD vs. the Texans Then busts out 170 and 1 TD vs the Packers Finishing with 2,209 yards and 16 TD's. |

that's a tall order, even for AP. It's pretty amazing he's done this well considering defenses know the vikings are going to run and AP's recovery from knee injury.

I never really saw Eric Dickerson, but AP is the best RB I've seen since Bo Jackson and Barry Sanders. I really can't believe what he's doing right now!

Dickerson fumbled 10+ times in each of his first 4 seasons. I have a feeling many on the OM would gripe about that more than they would celebrate his 2K season if he were playing for us today.

Not to mention that the main reason he "left yards on the field" was because they don't count yardage gained after crossing the goal line...which he did 90 times rushing. |

you can make that argument about anything. playoff records, regular season & etc.
players can't help the era they play in, they just go out and try to be great. there is no asterisk needed next to his record. the season is the season. |

Eric was great, but was kind of a puss compared to other RB'S of his era. Anyway, he never seemed like the same back after he left the rams

I like Adrian Peterson a lot, but I just don't see him in the same class with Dickerson. I could see him topping the 2000 yard mark, which in itself is an amazing feat, but not reaching the all-time record.
Peterson pounds out his yards, or so it seems to me. I don't get to see him as much as I'd like to, but I watch when I get the chance. Dickerson would glide. He was so unbelievably smooth and so deceptively fast. I can never forget that Halloween game against the Broncos on a national stage when Dickerson just smoked us. Peterson may well be a hall of fame talent, but I still don't think he is at the same level as Dickerson. |

This confuses me. How can you say he isn't worried about concussions? I saw him as an analyst on MNF and only concussions can explain his performance.

there's no way he's breaking Dickerson's record. especially not after saying he's going to try. he's going to be hard pressed to get 2k.

Knowshon gets tackled by those arm tackles for 3-5 yard gains, while Peterson will get 8 yards or more. Every season AD has gotten 10+ rushing TD's, and his worst YPC has been 4.4. He has a good chance at cracking 10,000 yards rushing next year with getting near 90 rushing TD's, and he will only be 28 years old. I don't know if he will be able to play long enough to challenge Emmitt Smith's record, but he will go down as one of the greatest RB's of all time most likely. |
