Weeden vs Newton

Off topic I know

I was having a debate with a couple of friends and there was a disagreement over how much better Cam will be compared to Weeden if at all

So I am trying a quick poll

Who is going to end up the better quarterback?

I am assuming Newton will win the poll, but I am trying to see if it as much a landslide as others keep implying

at the end of the day, weeden is 30 frickin years old as a rookie. that is so hard to overlook to pick him to become anything more than a few year starter.

yet he has almost NO hits on him over his career as a QB and QB is a spot that can be played well into the late 30's since most QB's 40 time are measured with a egg timer.. speed degradation like RBs, WR are not an issue..

Cam Newton is light years ahead (and always will be) in comparison to Brandon Weeden. Killa Cam is on pace for another ~ 4,000 yard season, 20+ passing touchdowns and probably another ten on the ground. Dude just scores points. Baller all day.

Neither one of them are good enough to even get their team to the playoffs, at this point. By NFL standards, they both suck.

Right now, both these guys are pretenders. They only get to start, because their ownership/head coach think that they can be better than they are right now. If they can't make the playoffs within a couple years, they will be backups.

Not sure either team has enough talent for anyone to get the team into the playoffs.

IIRC Cam was # one in the draft most teams are bereft of talent to get that low in the draft. Also seem to remember a purge going on for a few years cutting costs.

And well The Browns have sucked since Jimmy brown retired. Well almost but it has been a very long time since they were consistently relevant.

Not even remotely close to being true for Newton. The burden on offense is all on his shoulders considering the amount of injuries they have had at RB and OL. The running game isn't there for them this year like it was in years past. Williams and Stewart have blown this year. Not to mention, they were ahead in 5 games this year in the last quarter and their defense let them down. Newton is plenty good enough to start in this league.

Here is how I would rank QB's in the NFC South:

1. Drew Brees
2. Matt Ryan
3. Cam Newton
4. Josh Freeman

I'd say it's a good 4 to 5 years before Carolina even sniffs the playoffs (maybe after Drew Brees retires). At least Cam Newton will be in his prime then (if he doesn't get injured).

Drew Brees is HOF and Matt Ryan is awesome. There is no shame with Cam being the #3 guy in that division. Carolina has holes all over the place on the team. So your indictment on him is pretty much a sham. Cam isn't perfect, but without Newton, that team would be horrendous. Rivera is terrible too.

Yeah, he's good enough to start. I'd rank him about 15th. Hope he continues to improve...but like you said, alot of Newton's success depends on the the panthers organization's ability to build a team around him.

He's going to have to get more accurate, though...and stay away from setbacks (like Josh Freeman). If he becomes an under 60% passer, he won't have much success.

There is no indictment. Cam has to get a lot better for his team to be successful and make the playoffs. That's a fact.

In this era of pussified NFL Weeden could very well play until he is in his early 40's. So age isn't as big an issue as it's made out to be.

I think Newton is basically a new Cutler. Great ability bad attitude poor leader. Weeden with help could be really good.

a) Cam Newton is a middle of the pack NFL QB. If you have any evidence to refute that, post it.
b) The 2012 class of DT's isn't as good as the 2013 class of DT's (and the 2012 class wasn't great). Name one elite DT coming out this year. I'd classify every single one of them as 2nd round talent.
c) Normal people don't care about race, only racists do. It's a broad statement, but generally true.
