I for sure thought California would have been the 1st but I never thought CO would (along with WA) to be the 1st to legalize it. Oh wow. This will be interesting to see what events unfold from this. It could be a map of things to come if certain things happen.

I'm still floored that CO passed it. I'm really in shock kind of. Might be a good time to open a head shop in CO
![]() ......and this is huge. What about those serving sentences in CO for use of Marijuana (not selling it, but using it). I don't think they'll just open up the cells and let them go but I'm wondering if you might see some sentences reduced. |

It isn't though on a seriously note. The market is saturated and consolidation is on the rise. Soon (relative term) there will be only a few companies in Colorado doing this, and as they squeeze out competition the prices will go up.

Is it really legal?
http://www.coloradoan.com/article/20...an-still-place "...In a statement, AG John Suthers warned that the amendment sets up a conflict with federal laws, which still ban the use and possession of marijuana. The amendment doesn’t change the state’s existing medical marijuana system. Federal officials say they’re examining the voter-approved initiative but have no plans to change their enforcement strategy. 'The Department of Justice’s enforcement of the Controlled Substances Act remains unchanged. In enacting the Controlled Substances Act, Congress determined that marijuana is a Schedule I controlled substance. We are reviewing the ballot initiative and have no additional comment at this time,' Jeff Dorschner, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Denver said in a statement. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in 2009 said federal officials are committed to enforcing the federal Controlled Substances Act, which bans marijuana. Federal officials have previously used that law to prosecute Coloradans, even if they claimed protection under the state's medical-marijuana laws." |

Just stopped into 7-eleven on colfax. Got a tank of gas, a bong, bag of dope, a donut, snickers, popcorn, chips, and some skittles. One stop shopping.

Couldn't be more proud of my fellow Washingtonians!
It's a great day!Now the ball is in the Fed's court and it ought to be interesting to see how this plays out. These laws put the feds in a very difficult position as I think most people across the nation are going to see this as a State's Rights issue. I'm willing to bet the feds will have to compromise and allow state-regulated production and sales. They can do nothing about personal possession as they don't have the resources to enforce it. |

The Federal Law is unenforceable at this point. The cat is already out of the bag.

I remember watching a documentary on medical marijuana a few years ago and although the owner of this particular shop said he still feared that at any moment he could be arrested for selling it (and I think he was selling to anybody), but that his shop produced more in tax revenue for the city he was in then any of the other businesses, that's why for years they never came for him. Interesting. Money talks. lol

Let's say the feds suspect somebody of something else. More serious drugs, smuggling, weapons violations ... whatever. They can still arrest on marijuana charges & conduct searches incident to that arrest. Which means that anyone they suspect of anything better not be toking. |

Denver already has strong demand in housing and has a relatively young population. I could see this being a catalyst for another surge in rentals and real estate in general. Let's face it Denver is one of the greatest cities in the nation. Tens of millions of people smoke weed in America. Colorado has taken the term going green to a whole new level.

I guess the Mile High home games will be a bit more mellow now.
Glad to see CO was the first to have the smarts to do this. We didn't learn much from prohibition. |

I share your enthusiasm but am surprised by your reaction. Surprised by legalized drugs in this country? Booze? I mean I see the difference in our lifetime but really in 100 years who will even separate the two (now that they are both legal drugs) unless alcohol becomes illegal.

Smokers are not all lazy, many successful (and others) people smoke and that is why it passed. If you want to run a good business, sports team, or school you interview your employees for how good they will be to your institution not on if you go home and smoke at night. People who smoke or not can suck at a job and vice versa. No drug test ever got rid of all the ****ty employees. |

I got busted for possession of pot in CO. in the 1970's. It wasn't a big deal even back then.
I had an Irish guy for my lawyer, Donavan was his name I think. He fancied himself a master at pitching pennies and asked me if I wanted to pitch pennies double or nothing for his fee. We did and somehow I won. ( I kinda think he let me win). The judge throw out the case, the arresting cop was a dick who had a bad rep in the court system. So the whole affair only cost me a night in jail. Last edited by baja; 11-07-2012 at 04:23 PM.. |
