Default Republican Secretary of State in Ohio Has Last Minute "Patches" Installed in Vote Counting Computers

The story for now is that the Secretary of State in the key swing state in the 2012 presidential has installed "experimental" uncertified and untested software to count a large portion of the Ohio vote.

http://freepress.org/departments/display/19/2012/4766

In preparation for the upcoming general election in late April, the Free Press began requesting public records from all 88 counties in Ohio in order to build a broad database of every vendor and piece of equipment used in the state of Ohio. Aside from some minor delays, all 88 county jurisdictions have complied.

However, the office of the Ohio Secretary of State has not complied with any requests for lists of equipment, contracts with vendors, schedules of payment and even the identities of the vendors. The Free Press' public records requests, under ORC 149.43 (The Public Records Act) have been ignored by Chris Shea, presumably acting on behalf of Secretary of State Jon Husted. Now that the Free Press has obtained the contract, it seems clear that the secretary of state's office was hiding these last minute "experimental" uncertified software installations.

I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. Remember in 2008 when many voters claimed that they voted for one candidate and the machine replaced their choice with a different candidate? This is the company that supplied those machines. Don't worry, though. Everything will be fine. If the exit polls come up with a different result in Ohio than these machines do, that's because exit polling is unreliable.

if you want to change voting laws why dont you i dunno
DO IT WAY BEFORE THE ELECTIONS instead of waiting til a couple of months to do it im all for some sort of id to vote ,but you dont start asking til its almost time for the next election? after the elections you get amnesia . mho i really dont think illegal aliens from mexico are going to go vote they tend since they are here illegally KEEP A LOW PROFILE . while im b****in why dont the government make it easier to at least get work visas . i met quite a few Mexicans or Hispanic people they are the most nicest religious good honest people i have ever seen.
i just wish people ie farmers wouldn't exploit them for cheap labor . that is a sin making those people work for pennies a hour
this just my opinion i could be wrong but i doubt it
now i expect the other side to b**** me out now calling me some left wing nut job while the left wing nuts embrace me for coming over to their side again yalls are extreme left right idiots

But remember kids, it's in person fraud that's the real problem.

No matter the circumstance or who's in office, the people of Ohio should be up in arms about this. The SoS and anyone else involved in this kind of crap should be tossed out on his ass, at the very least.

"Last minute software patches may be deemed "experimental" because that designation does not require certification and testing. Uncertified and untested software for electronic voting systems are presumably illegal under Ohio law. All election systems hardware and software must be tested and certified by the state before being put into use, according to Ohio Revised Code 3506.05. By unilaterally deeming this new software "experimental," Secretary of State Husted was able to have the software installed without any review, inspection or certification by anyone. ES & S, for their part, knows that this software will not be subject to the minimal legally required testing as stated in the contract on page 21 (Section 6.1). "

Untested, unverified code released days before an election? You have to be ****in' kidding me.

If you do a google search of ohio voting machines 2012, you will see a handful of claims that Romney votes are getting changed to Obama votes. Apparently the touch screen area for Obama is enters into the Romney area.

Tagg Romney is the proud part owner of these same glitching voting machines...

Touch screen technology is great, but it unnerves me that it is used in voting machines... sometimes simpler is better. Maybe all voters could just get a special rock and drop it in the basket of the candidate they prefer. Most rocks win! That way, no one could claim to be the owner of the rocks or baskets.

Also some reports from Ohio, Kansas and NC of calibration issues. People reporting that their votes for Romney are being converted to Obama. Speculating that the field for Obama on the touch screen bleeds a 1/4 inch into the Romney field causing some Romney votes to be incorrectly read.

Serious issues with trust and reliability of security, accuracy and fraud in US voting. Not a lot of faith that partisans from Dem or Rep will fairly address it.

Accurate voting is something all Americans should demand regardless of what we fear the outcome could be.

true, but we would probably argue over the calibration and size of the rocks. Maybe if we could throw the rocks at the politicians.... (I kid, seriously.. not a threat to any of the bastards running for office).

I'm with you here too. I wish the people who were not running for office were the ones we could elect.

Voting machine accuracy and transparency should be a nonpartisan issue.

Sounds like 2004 all over again - except this time the repuke OH secretary of state isn't also his state's campaign chairman for the GOP candidate.

Voters in Ohio and Kansas have said that some voting machines used in early voting are changing Romney votes for Obama, two separate reports said Wednesday.

According to the Marion Star, early voter Joan Stevens tried to cast her ballot for Mitt Romney, but the machine kept defaulting to Barack Obama.

"Upon selecting 'Mitt Romney' on the electronic touch screen, Barack Obama’s name lit up," the Star reported, adding that it took Stevens three attempts before the correct vote would register.
