We're a better defense with Mays off the field, but this still hurts our depth. Maybe DJ can take his place on special teams.

Never good news especially when we already knew he lost his starting job but someone is needed on ST and clean-up duty.

The thing that hurts a run with an up and coming team like the Broncos is depth. We can't afford season ending injuries. Elway has done a masterful job building this team but we have not built depth yet. That will take another draft or two.

Sucks. Makes me wonder if DJ could shift back to MLB now? Already with Woodyard doing to well and Trevathan solid as well, weakside is less of a need.

DJ has played Mike before and he's not worse than Mays. He will be a good backup.

Also, feels like almost every injury we've been hit with has been season ending. Kuper had the arm thing in the preseason and came back and hopefully Porter's seizure issue clears up, but otherwise no guys missing a few weeks here and there, just torn triceps and broken bones.

Sucks for Joe.
I would really like to have him back next year as special teams/backup. I love seeing him obliterate people when (if) he hits them. Did anyone else see Mays blow up a Saint when the Saints kicked off after their first touchdown? Once the ball was kicked all the Broncos ran backwards to set up their blocking, except Joe who takes off like a shot towards the Saints and completely destroys one of their coverage guys. You could hear that hit throughout the stadium, it was incredible. |

Never like to see a guy get hurt, I saw him on the turf yesterday and it looked bad from the way he was in pain. No matter how you slice it, this makes the team worse, the best LB on practice squad is not as good as Joe Mays even if Mays is no Patrick Willis.

Did you guys see him kill someone on a kickoff? I don't remember exactly when it was, maybe the start of the second half. He just destroys someone about 10 yards downfield from the kick.

Sorry that Mays broke his leg. He is fairly good on ST...the "unguided missile" hits hard. He was just too much of a liability at MLB , and we are better with him out of the regular rotation. But injury is not what anyone wanted.

sucks because he is an ideal depth LB. Now it's time for Irving to step up.

That's unfortunate. He's a very good ST player and I feel bad for him. He's human, so just imagine what he's going through.
You worked hard all off season to fix your biggest weakness and it never translated on game day. You get suspended for a hit that didn't warrant a suspension. Your back up vet who is old as Tommy the green ranger comes in and plays better than you. You then lose your job and see 0 snaps on defense after seeing about 96% of all defensive snaps to start the season. Then, you break your leg coming off a bye week, in which you've probably re-motivated yourself that you'll do better. |
