Obama wins.
Florida, with 81% of the vote counted has Obama ahead, and with the vast majority of the remaining uncounted votes in historically democratic counties, The Lone Bolt projects Obama takes Florida: 29 electoral college votes. Pennsylvania has already been called for Obama. It also looks like he's taking NH. Virginia and NC go to Romney. But of the remaining battleground states, based on the most recent polling Obama should take WI and IA. Ohio is still close but with Florida on Obama's side the Dems don't need it. Nonetheless I'm going to go out on a limb and say Obama takes Ohio too. |

Yeah it's looking pretty obama from here. I mean if if Obama wins Florida it's game over. There is an entire county of panhadle votes that will go heavily for Romney that aren't reporting right now.
That said, it looks like, 80% of Ohio is reporting with Obama with a three percentage point lead. That falls right in line with what we saw from the polls. |

It's over... Obama took Florida. The numbers missing are from Miami-Dade, Broward and Orange Counties which are dominated by the Democrats.

LABF right America does win. Our system set up so both sides will still have a voice. Obama has to come right to get anything done. He no longer will be burdened by worrying about liberal donors. He has to deal because otherwise sequestration happens and his whole dealio shabang is done. Without dealing he won't be able to do anything he wants to get done.

Congrats to everyone who is happy with the result. The international bond market will eventually bring discipline to American governance since neither Dem or Republican choose to. For some of us, today's like any other day--fighting the same fight we fought yesterday..and the day before...etc.
As with last election, let's hope America is the winner. |

The sequestration that looms is now a critical issue.
If this is not addressed due to either sides refusal to compromise then a further reduction of the nations credit rating will ensue, with dire results for the economy in general. While the vote generally resulted in the re-election of a divided congress the GOP cannot claim that it is a mandate for gridlock to continue. They are going to HAVE to give up the idea that no new taxes are needed, as that is an unsustainable formula. The Bush cuts for the wealthy are no longer going to be allowed and Compromise on that is the only way a deal gets done. Obama has room to move on some issues ...but he also has nothing to lose by being hard line on tax increases....he is not running for another term and can use the bully pulpit to take his points to the public. His re-election is the country telling ALL the congess and senate to "do your Jobs" and find a way to succesfully GOVERN. And that includes spending cuts and revenue increases. |
