Default Freeney and the Chargers - Hilarious

So they are going to completely change their defensive scheme and philosophy for a 33 year old that had 5 sacks and 12 tackles last season? Sounds smart.

at switching to a 4-3 so Freeny can come aboard for one yr. They wouldn't do that. They must mean we would figure out a way for him to play Dend on passing downs.

I don't wonder if Freeney isn't trying to leverage us back into signing him. After we pulled out, his market price took a plunge. Injuries and desperation witht he boltz might win him a decent paycheck over there, but he sure looks like a sqare peg in a round hole...

The article changed since I put this up. When I did, it had quotes from McCoy that implied they would change their entire scheme and formation.

Lip service. If they sign him, he'll play on passing downs.

It's definitely the most talented 7-9 team without a starting OLB in the history of everything we hold sacred and dear!

Just shows how much depth the chargers lack. Also letting Phillips go for cheap to Denver now not a good move.

If you just look at his stats, you might think he's still a pretty decent player but he didn't very much left in the tank last year. He was out of shape and he padded his stats against the worst offenses in the league last year (Raiders, Cardinals, Jets).

The tape doesn't lie and that's why there was little or any interest in him despite what he wound up getting paid. I don't remember any other teams even bringing him in for a visit, though I could be wrong... I didn't follow it that closely.

Regardless, Phillips kind of burnt his bridges here. There was pretty much no chance on him coming back anyway.

Like I said when he signed with Denver, maybe those big incentive dollars in his contract will motivate him to get back in shape and playing as a situational pass rusher should help him stay fresh but I think there's more to it than that. I think the foot injury he suffered a couple of years ago is still lingering. He just doesn't have the same burst he used to prior to the injury.

We wouldn't change our base defense considering that some of our best players on defense like Liuget and Reyes are more 3-4 DEs than 4-3 DEs or DTs. But we do play out of the nickel a lot so that would be where his fit would be: as a pass rush specialist on obvious passing downs. Much like Doom is going to be with the Ravens. I doubt Telesco overpays for Freeny's services.

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 12m

Dwight Freeney will sign a two-year deal with the San Diego Chargers, per league source.
Details

Two years, $8.75 million for Freeney

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...n-for-freeney/

As we understand it, Freeney was attracted to the possibility of playing with a quarterback who can give the team a lead — and in turn allow Freeney to chase down the other team’s quarterback.

I guess Dwight hasn't watched the chargers play in a couple years.

Well he didn't play the Cardinals last year but he did get sacks against Denver, Baltimore, NO.

If Clady wants his big money contract, he's going to have to start by shutting down Freeney and Elvis through 3 games. Those are two guys with a vendetta.

Ayers really needs to step up and outperform what Freeney does in SD, too.

I don't think it will be hard for Ayers to outperform what Freeney does in SD.

I do. Ayers has 6.5 sacks in his entire four year career.

Exactly...anybody who thinks they are going to change the whole scheme for a guy who wont play everydown is a fool. We use a 4 down lineman set many times anyways so this isnt anything to get excited about.

, that website is the equivelant to the Bleacher Report....maybe even worse. I know a couple of forum posters who write articles for that site, and why i never go there to read anything.

Ayers is a bum, Freeney even at 33 is better than him on his worst day.

Stop being a homer.

Yes we lack depth. Not like we are going to give you a real challenge for the division this year. Larry English will probably start ahead of Freeney if he can stay healthy which has been his problem in his career.

As far as Phillips, i for one am glad to see that fool go. Yeah he gets sacks here and there but he also isnt a clutch player by any means and runs his trap more than anything else.

Even though you are a rival, i dont even that Phillips is on your team now.

Rivers is basically a more durable Carson Palmer at this point in his career
