Default Romney: Huckster in Chief! Made Millions on Auto Bailout!

Romney opposed the bailout of Detroit. Now The Nation discovers that he raked in over $15 million in taxpayer bailout funds (and maybe as much as $115 million!). Not only that, his partners in vulture capitalism made billions, and then each kicked in a million apiece to Romney's campaign. Remember how Romney slammed Obama for the bailout? At the same time, he was profiting from it. Remember how he keeps saying what a job creator he is? In this deal, he made a fortune and canned 25,000 unionized American workers while profiting from moving Delco's (now Delphi) factories to China. Then, they stiffed the workers on their pensions and the taxpayers had to pay them!

Romney has slammed the bailout as a payoff to the auto workers union. But that certainly wasn’t true for the bailout of Delphi. Once the hedge funders, including Singer—a deep-pocketed right-wing donor and activist who serves as chair of the conservative, anti-union Manhattan Institute—took control of the firm, they rid Delphi of every single one of its 25,200 unionized workers.

Want to see how a top flight flim-flam man operates? Read this article. I have to admit, I almost admire Romney. He takes hucksterism to a fine art. And all the while, he's slamming Obama for saving the auto industry. Un****ingbelievable.

Meanwhile, the mainstream media aren't even covering the story. I guess Kim Kardashian did something important.

The savings to the hedge fund billionaires of dropping retiree insurance was peanuts—$70 million a year—compared with the profits they later extracted from Delphi. But the harm to Delphi retirees was severe. Bruce Naylor of Kokomo, Indiana, had been forced into retirement at the age of 54 in 2006, when Delphi began to move its plants overseas. Naylor’s promised pension was slashed 40 percent, and his health insurance and life insurance were canceled. Though he had thirty-six years of experience under his belt as an engineer with GM and Delphi, he couldn’t find another job as an engineer—and he doesn’t know a single former co-worker who has found new employment in his or her field, either. Naylor ended up getting work at a local grocery store. That job gone, he now sells cars online for commission, bringing in one-fifth of what he earned before he was laid off from Delphi.

Even with his wife Judy’s income as a nurse, it hasn’t been enough: the Naylors just declared bankruptcy, and their home is in foreclosure.
(Ibid.)

Wow. The more you learn about this guy the worse it gets.

Saw this about his son today:

Quote:
Not long after graduating from Harvard Business School, [Tagg] turned down offers from several prominent firms to join an obscure start-up called eGrad, whose meager resources gave it a kind of grunge aesthetic: secondhand furniture and heating so erratic he brought in blankets to keep warm. …

But making it on your own is never so clear-cut when you’re a Romney. Some of the biggest meetings he landed were with Staples, which his father had funded at Bain Capital, and General Motors, a company where his last name still carried weight. Tagg’s biography is littered with ... short cuts he couldn’t have taken without his last name ... And yet, thanks to the Romney myth, he and his family believe that most of what he has achieved comes from old-fashioned industriousness. … The problem is that Tagg’s blind spots are also Mitt’s. And Mitt’s peculiar version of reality doesn’t just drive him personally; it skews his politics and shapes his policies.

^ Yeah, it is puzzling how Romney is able to sell this "pulled myself up by the bootraps" self-made man image with so many people. Of course, they were diamond-studded, gold-plated boot straps inherited from his daddy. Sounds like Tagg is following the same playbook.

Another hit on the list of this guy LOOKING YOU IN THE EYE ON NATIONAL TV and saying one thing he knows is a lie or his campaign backwalking a comment over and over again.

Very long pattern with this clown.

Luckily for Thurston, the Neanderthals and chicken-fried rubes who plan to vote for him couldn't care less who he is or what he really stands for. All that matters is that he's white and republican.

I finally put that ignorant POS on ignore because he wouldn't stop sending me right-wing hate mail via PM.

First, these knuckle draggers try to hide by changing their screen names.

Then, when that doesn't work, they show their true colors via neg rep and/or PM.

I can't believe there isn't more reaction to this. This is evidence that Romney is a lying SOB. And I don't mean he's twisting the facts, like all politicians do. He's flat-out lying about a fundamental claim of his campaign, and he knows it. He personally profited from putting Americans out of work and sending good jobs to China. He personally profited from what amounts to being in league with a bunch of vulture capitalists who basically blackmailed the U.S. government which was trying to save GM. I can't imagine people would put a guy so lacking in basic character in charge of the USA.

The common response from liberals when the MSM don't cover something conservatives say is an issue is that the story isn't being covered because its bull****. So...

This about the book:

Author Greg Palast. Well-known lefty whose work is routinely ignored by people who matter. I became familiar with him when I was a leftist and his articles were frequently cited by the likes of Noam Chomsky, Amy Goodman and other lefty scum.

The Nation and this "Puffin Institute" are liberal if not farther left than standard American liberals. In other words: The usual suspects coming up with results we'd expect.

Any article by any of these people is going to have an left bent to it. As such, why should people be impressed by this?

Would you all accept it if I published excerpts here attacking Obama from a David Limbaugh book?

I didn't think so.

Palast's idiocy and political colors are revealed in such pathetic article titles he will never hope to live down such as, "FEAR OF CHAVEZ IS FEAR OF DEMOCRACY."

Yes, every Republican candidate is a silver spooner. Yes, we know. It's one of the lines the libs regurgitate every single election cycle, along with utero-fearmongering.

Now with the likes of the Kennedys, of course, well, that's different.

Looks like the supposed "independents" around here are just magically finding stories(from surprise, surprise liberal websites) to help support how they will have a "change of heart and have to vote for Obama" instead of some 8th party nobody they planned to. , these guys are so predictable and a joke, but liars tend to be that way.

Wow! The righties are going ballistic over this one. The deflection hysteria is pegging the meter. I guess when you've made the decision to live in a bubble of ignorance, hiding from facts must be a full time job. Like my drill sergeant used to say, "Denial ain't just a river in Egypt."

I remember reading something about this months ago..

IIRC the Delphi profits came out of the BLIND trust of Ann Romney..

Mitt had nothing to do with the move.. as some suggest..

and frankly not sure what the huge up roar is Delphi has had plants in Mexico for decades..

I know I helped to supply them for a long time.. Before I retired.. Had friends that worked in the plant across the border..

more DONKEY CRAP from the liberal left..

Does anybody even ask themselves, why would a guy like Romney put a one million dollar investment in his wife's name? At least we know of one million. Maybe it was more.

Why do you think Romney put a one million dollar investment in his wife's name?

Let me add a blind trust is just that zero control over decisions made. Again pretty simple.

I'd rather have a rich guy calling the shots than some one who is beholden to every special interest groups who got him hired.

But I suspect that is to logical for liberals to figure out.
