Mays is easily the worst starter on the team and maybe in the league.

Mays is trash. Defense would've done worse last week against Oakland had he been in that game.

This defense has big problems against a no huddle. They show a lot of confusion with alot of hands to their hips looking flat and exhausted. There's some IQ problems too. Not very smart in decision making which is bad against a no huddle too.

Maybe they'll practice tackling this week instead of dance moves

I'm hoping they'll move DJ back into the middle when he gets back... he's not stellar in the middle, but he's FAR better than Mays.

A dumbass out of shape DJ Williams that completely freelances and doesn't know the playbook and what he does know he tweets to the world would still be better than Joe Mays.

Overreaction alarm!! Our defense ain't that bad. We played a great QB and (like everyone else he faces) got burned. He picked on Mays in pass coverage and Harris was off. Von played lights out and Rahim played pretty well but we will do better against the chargers. Our defense was ranked 7th before today.

They got gang raped up and down the field and used pretty much at will against Houston, Atlanta, and NE. Just violated in an ugly, ugly way.

Mays is being made a scapegoat IMO. True we could use a big time middle linebacker, and a better will linebacker, but Mays and Woodyard aren't the only problem. Really the problem is the Patriot offense. They are really tough to stop and really you just have to outscore them. Make it close enough at end where Brady could make a big mistake etc etc.

The reality is our front 7 still not elite enough to dominate the good teams in the NFL. IMO we still need a stud DT. Wolfe more a tweener DE/UT, Vickerson, Bannan are both just sort of avg NFL players. Not crap, but not good enough to lead the way against a team like the Patriots. Doom honestly isn't that good vs the run and never has been. So really we need a stud weakside linebacker and middle linebacker to make up for that.

Broncos aren't trash though and to say they suck is a bit much. Falcons, Texans, Patriots, these teams are just a bit ahead of us. They have been good for last couple years and the Broncos just sort of getting back to playing good football.

Still DT doesn't drop fumble again in the middle of a huge play and maybe we jump out 7-0 and the game is closer. We can't have mistakes like that.

I know scoring is up in the league but you can't say we're still in those games because the defense was good. If you are FORCED to score 31+ points a game just to tie, that's not an ingredient for winning.

I will say this however. In all honesty, if you go back through these games and you take away just HALF of the 3rd and long conversions by the other team, I think we're 3-2 or 4-1, seriously. That's how bad this defense has been on 3rd and long this year. It's a joke. Somebody said we were ranked 7th in defense before the game. I wonder what our 3rd and long rank was, I betcha near the bottom. Yes, I do think Denver has played by far the toughest schedule so far, and it's not even fricken close. But the D has to get off the field.

We couldn't set the edge on defense. The Patriots were able to run on the outside behind their tackles and tight ends at will. It's like Fox said, the Patriots create a crap load of match up problems.

They spread you out and force you to put little guys all over the field. And then their monster tight ends seal the edge of your defense and create huge running lanes on the outside.

I don't know why we didn't copy what the Steelers and and Giants do when they play the Patriots. We should have jammed their wide outs more. Especially Welker. Put Champ on Welker and hope Harris or Porter can cover Lloyd on the outside.

Also the stupid play calls and fumbles on offense didn't help.

There just isn't enough talent there to stop really good offenses.

Mays, Woodyard, Bannan, Vickerson and Adams are all players that have been around for quite a while and really shouldn't be starting for a good defence. Vickerson has shown some flashes to be fair to him and he'd be a nice rotational player to have around for the next few years, but when he's your best DT you know you're in trouble.

Wolfe, Moore and Harris IMO have the ability to be good players but they're still young and learning their way in the league.

Porter is a good player, Dumervil is a great pass rusher and Miller and Champ are studs. That's not enough talent, no matter how well you scheme.

The good news is that the Pats, Texans and Falcons are some of the best O's in the game right now, and we probably won't face anyone that good again this year.

Need to add a lot more talent before we can field a defense to be proud of.

Just the Saints and possibly the Chargers (x2). Other than that, you're right... it's been a hell of a schedule so far, hasn't it?

Chargers aren't at that level offensively, I don't think. Their WR corp isn't very good and while Gates is still a very good player he's lost a step. Rivers is a good quarterback and Matthews is a very good all-round RB but their offensive line is patchy. We're not gonna shut them down or anything but I'd be hopeful the defense can hold it's own with some good scheming and give Manning and the O a chance to outscore them.

Saints will be a shootout, hopefully coming off a bye week and playing at home will give us enough of an edge to pull that one out.

What we saw from NE yesterday cannot be replicated by any other team including Denver

Only thing we could have done was try and disrupt the routes. Brady was on fire and getting the ball out so quickly in was insane

I don't think CBS even had time to show replays during the NE drives

I'm OK playing them again.

THey are going to put up 30 a game. The good news is Denver can put up 30 a game as well if and when we cut out the brain farts

Our LB's and middle of the defense are so inconsistent and well, sucky.
Von Miller is our only LB worth a damn.

Mays aside, our D was just getting outplayed by possibly the best offence in the game in their own stadium. Last year we gave up 45 and 42 to them and they've only gone and added Lloyd and a quality run game.

Mays was ****ing useless though, why is Fox so much of a stubborn prick that he can't realise that Brooking is still a better option. Even DJ coming back in 4 weeks after spending the whole summer getting drunk and high while posting the playbook on twitter instead of learning it is a better option because all mays can do is run in a straight line towards a player, he literally hasn't got a ****ing clue what he's doing out there.

I wouldn't say the defense sucks. It's not elite, but still probably top 10 when you adjust for strength of schedule.
