Barack Obama is practicing a sneaky way of firing people from their jobs without them knowing until after he’s reelected. His labor department is, in effect, bribing defense contractors to wait until after the November election to announce the certain layoffs that will occur as a result of Obama’s sequestration.
Here’s how it works. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act generally requires employers with at least 100 employees to announce to employees that they will be fired 60 days before they are let go if the layoffs are reasonably foreseeable. Because of the looming sequestration, courtesy of Obama, mass layoffs at defense plants are expected to occur after January 1. But 60 days before that would mean the announcement would come just before the election, and Obama would have to deal with thousands of disgruntled former employees. In July, the Labor Department laid the groundwork for this duplicity, saying it would be “inappropriate” for contractors to issue notices of potential layoffs that resulted from sequestration cuts. But a few contractors, most notably Lockheed Martin, wanted to follow the rule of law, and send out notices the way they were supposed to. Then, this past Friday, the Office of Management and Budget sent out a letter to contractors that they would be compensated for legal costs if layoffs occur due to contract cancellations under sequestration — but only if the contractors follow the Labor guidance. The Labor Department knows that “employee compensation costs for [Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification] WARN act liability as determined by a court” might be likely, and they want to make sure the defense contractors don’t lose a cent in covering up the layoffs. So just as the Democrats grandly announced last week they would investigate the Benghazi scandal (but tried to cover up that the investigation would occur after the election), now Obama and his shady practices strike again, leaving unsuspecting workers thinking they will have jobs when Obama is planning to leave them jobless. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Governm...ooming-layoffs |

Man, you think the law has any standing with this administration? Sebellius broke the law, no consequences. Interestingly, Obama, when he was running for president in 08, wanted to extend WARN notification to 90 DAYS when he cosponsored the FOREWARN bill in 2007.
Interestingly, Lockheed's gonna face penalties for violating the 60 day rule and guess who's gonna cover those--taxpayers. So much for you fools that rail against big corporations, as you know a smaller firm would NEVER get this treatment. If you want to make the case that he's not asking LM to break the law and that LM is simply opting to incur the fine in lieu of notification, are you OK with covering the fine with taxpayer money, cuz you know that any business in their right mind would not incur an expense out of the goodness of their heart. |

Yes as long as the sequestration goes through. Is this a serious question or are you trying to make a point?

The dirty little secret is none of the big boys (like Lockheed) are going to see any problem due to sequestration til the end of the government fiscal year. If they have contract already in place (like most of them) for M&P then they have orders and the government will pay them. If they are waiting on new start then it will be problem, but that because Congress failed to do its job.

This will hurt him among those working at defense plants, but it will help him gain some of the fiscally responsible voters.

Funny how the only response the left ever has is personal attacks or "but Bush". Nevermind the facts and the present.

I think this pretty much sums up what's happening: But defense advocates want them to step right back, taking a threat originally designed to twist Congress’s arm and use it to twist Obama’s.
Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories...#ixzz28KxoVVVh The idea that this is Obama's sequestration is just more propaganda. Do people really fall for this bull****? I guess idiots do. This is just some Republicans in Congress trying to turn sequestration into a club they can use to bash Obama with. All I need to see is who is at the head of the mob: Graham, McCain and Grassley. That pretty much says it all. I'm still waiting for the Republicans in Congress to do the jobs they get paid to do. I guess there's not much chance of that.
