Weird to say that for a change, huh?

Of the 37 solo tackles garnered by the Broncos, 12 came from the defensive line. That's some good LOS stopping power against one of, if not THE, best running team in the league.

...but from the linebackers? 3. ****ing 3. 1 from Mays, 1 from Woody, 1 from Brooking, 0 from Von. Nothing shy of abysmal.

Rahim Moore led the team with a whopping 9, but I'm so angry at the play vs deep balls that he gets no credit here. I haven't checked concretely to see if that was on Adams, Moore, or JDR yet, but still furious over it.

They were on Adams...just like that one that he actually managed to break up. Adams man wide open by 20 yards down the sideline. If Schaub isnt forced to get air under the ball it would have been the 3rd long TD pass of the game that would have been his fault.

After the first TD Porter went straight to Adams on the sideline and they were both looking at the play photos and arguing about it

Looked to be on Adams most of the time. Not a good sign as he was supposed to be our smart veteran deep security blanket.

Woodyard did have a sweet INT though

Yup. Once again the fact that they didn't make more of an effort to upgrade the LB situation this past offseason just boggles the mind. Did they expect Irving to make a leap? Did they think Mays was going to suddenly improve? Did they think DJ was going to beat his suspension? What the hell were they thinking, exactly?

it's pretty bad when JDR has to have a 'come to Jesus' moment with the entire defense before halftime.

It seemed to me that both Harris and Porter left a little bit to be desired as well...

I wasn't analyzing the secondary or anything, but I thought Harris played really well, with one mistake where he had good coverage, but took a bad angle on a sideline play. He looks really good to me. Seems that last year wasn't a fluke.

You could tell by Porter's coverage and techique on Walters that he thought he had inside help deep that was not there

I think Adams had a terrible game and we the culprit on both long TDs and the other one that he broke up after running 20 yards to get over to a wide open WR

Yup, me neither. My comment is a "gut reaction". Often the case that DB's get the blame when they are in the vicinity of a play where they were supposed to get help and didn't. Hard to determine this from live action/limited view.

Can someone explain why Brooking is getting more snaps than Woody?

The first Bomb to Johnson, Porter makes a WTF gesture towards Adams before the play is complete.

Von needs to contain on those misdirection/play action plays. He gets baited inside too easily trying for the sack on every play.

On the Johnson TD, Adams was the problem, it was a cover 3 play and Moore correctly jumps up to cover the TE in a short pattern. Adams drops back into his middle zone but gets caught as the Texans have Walter going deep with Champ on the left and Johnson running some weird triple route on the right - Adams should know in this situation that Champ doesn't need help when he has a WR on the sideline but doesn't diagnose in time and Johnson gets far behind him. Porter is left trailing as he assumes he can hand off coverage to the safety when Johnson cuts inside.

On the Walter TD, it looked like a cover 1, but I can't be sure. I can't see if it is a safety or slot WR, but someone is running a deep out down the seam and Moore jumps up on the coverage, Adams gets caught in the middle waiting for that seam route to develop and lets Walter get behind him, on this one Porter is in man coverage it seems and should have been in better position to play the post route, but Adams again **** the bed as he should have been aware of not letting Walter get behind him as the cover 1 safety.

Be careful. If you mention ANY of Von's shortcomings people throw a ****ing ****-fit.

No. I was stunned when I saw Brooking was starting over him.

Here's IAOFM's take on the two long TD passes:

Quote:
Of course, when you get it pounded down your throat like Del Rio did in the first half, your defense is open to the play fake. Mike Adams or Tracy Porter? It's hard to tell with the match-up zone, but at first glance, it appears as if Porter was clearly expecting help to the inside on Johnson's TD catch. My guess is Adams is the culprit. Either way, we're cryin'. On the second touchdown, it was more of the same.

I can't stand watching Joe Mays play football. For a supposed thumper, he sure sucks at thumping.

Well he's fun to watch when he's hitting people. It's all those whiffs in between the occasional hits that suck.

Both Brooking and Joe Mays were brutal in this game. Yes, the Texans run a zone scheme, but both linebackers consistently guessed inside, only to watch the halfback stretch the play to the next hole over (kinky, I know). Worse, Mays actually went backwards today.

How dare you give any props to Rahim! No matter what big play happens on the defense it's his fault on this board! Even though he is clearly alot better than last year as a tackler and just a pinch away from making a big pick, it's always his fault!
