Default Clint Eastwood

Did anyone just see Eastwood speak at the RNC? Was it totally weird or am I missing something?

He's always been a little out there, but people love him.

Totally weird, and generally ineffective I would say. Easily the worst speaker they've trotted out.

And joking twice that the president told someone to **** themselves? Just not a proper tone for a political convention, and not an appropriate amount of respect to the POTUS.

complete flop. I'm not sure he hurt romney with his speech but he sure didn't help himself. I used to think pretty highly of him until now.

Incredible. Made sitting through the rest of the RNC worth it. Media members at the convention were on Twitter saying the Romney handlers were visibly squirming through the entire insane, stream-of-conscious performance. How could a campaign this tightly scripted let this slip through? And then him making the crowd cheer about withdrawing from Afghanistan or something? So surreal, wish it had gone for another 10 minutes?

On another note, can you even imagine the FOX/media backlash if the DNC put a ****ing actor like, say, George Clooney in the 3rd biggest speaking slot of their final night? On the party's biggest stage, when they want to make their most serious case to the country for why they should lead it, they trot out a celebrity actor for an unscripted comedy routine?

I use to think pretty highly of Dirty Harry until he produced and directed The Bridges of Madison County.

also another thing is network TV didn't start,as with the whole convention, until 10 pm. they moved a pretty good intro video to before 10:00 so that eastwood could get that time slot. instead of most americans seeing a very good intro video of romney they saw eastwood.

I figured it out. That one was for all the old people. Told my dad I didn't like it and why I didn't like it the reply from him was "He's Clint Eastwood he can ramble all he wants. You didn't watch his movies so you can't say sh it about him. Go **** yourself."

So just a word of advice to anyone here. Don't rip the Eastwood speech if you're around old people.

The truth is this is bad, bad for Romney. 1) All any will be talking about is Clint Eastwood tomorrow not Mitt Romney. 2) It shows ineptitude and even indecency to let Clint Eastwood work the 10pm slot.

Ari Fleischer reported that Clint had a speech written but decided to trash it and do that instead. I think it will go down as one of the stranger moments in convention history. It won't particularly hurt Romney of course, because he came out and gave a very statesman-like performance.

Its not bad to have people talking about Clint's speech being strange. It won't be a big deal on how people vote.

The left has the lion's share of celebrities that speak out in support of them. When the right wants a Hollywood endorsement, they pretty much have to go to Clint, Bruce Willis, or Kelsey Grammar.

But the left, I think, has enough experience exploiting those ego cases to know how to use them. Fundraisers, magazine interviews? Sure. 10pm speaking slot on your party's biggest night? Well, don't act shocked when someone who has been an actor their entire life decides to make those 20 minutes all about themselves, ignoring every single policy talking point the convention organizers likely asked for/or to avoid, and makes a joke of the proceedings he never took as seriously as they would want.

If you've got a celebrity endorsement speech that bombs in prime time due to not thinking through what could go wrong, you built that.

Ari Fleischer - that's a name I haven't heard in a while.

One of the few remaining associates of the Bush Crime Family who actually has the nerve to show his face in public, eh?

Yeah, the right-wingers were trying to claim it was some sort of subliminal add for Obama despite the fact that Eastwood is known to be a long-time conservative.

Most of Hollywood votes democrat every time no matter who it is, so finding someone there who doesn't do that is odd. At least one willing to make it public, which only established "stars" can get away with it. An actor/actress with little fanfare at the time were to try that and they get blacklisted by the liberals of Hollywood. Tolerance and open-mindedness are reserved for everybody else, not for liberals where practicing what one preaches is a foreign concept.

Well the liberal-loons can always bring out the Hollywood Big Guns and if Susan Sarandon can't kick Clint Eastwoods ass they can always rely on Rosie O'Donnell.

I loved the commercial. People looking for controversy will make it up if they can't find it.

Didn't see the speech so don't have anything to add to that, but didn't Clint used to be the mayor of Carmel or something? So he does sort of have political ties I guess. It could be worse, they could've trotted out Schwarzenegger I suppose who I would imagine might not be the best celebrity-politician to trot out right now.
