Default Legal hit or not.

I say it was fine, he didn't lead with the helmet. I think they need to just let them play ball.

It's not a legal hit. You cannot hit a quarterback in the HEAD, and you absolutely cannot launch yourself and hit a player in the HEAD.

Why is this so difficult for players to understand?

I would just about guarantee that if Manning took that hit last week, there would be a 10 page thread on why the defender should be sat down for several games.

It was a dirty and unnecessary hit.

Absolutely not legal. Not only does he launch himself at the QB's head, he tucks his own helmet down.

Initial contact is with DRC's shoulder in Byron's chest. What's the rule again? Don't lead with your helmet? Well, he didn't. But, like most humanoids, it turns out that his head happens to be near his shoulder...

Whether his helmet made contact with Byron's head has very little to do with how illegal that hit is.

The OP must be a relative of Cromartie... Not only did he hit the QB in the head, he also launched himself at the QB...either will get a flag throw.

Original Poster should get a month long vacation for stupidity.

In a few generations, everyone will be related to Cromartie.

Illegal hit. It's almost like Cromartie has a tendency to show poor judgement...

DRC actually hit Leftwich in the Sternum area with his shoulder, it's just the launch that makes it look worse than it is. Here's another angle:

http://youtu.be/CvrfPTJO3gw

Also wrong Cromartie. They are distant cousins, but this guy only has one kid. Grew up with DRC and played in the same secondary with him in high school. He was known as Dominique Rodgers all the way through his senior year of college at Mid Tenn St. Then in the weeks leading up to the combine, he hyphenated the Cromartie on the end. His dad's last name is Cromartie (Who was/maybe still is the head b-ball coach at Tallahassee Community College), but was raised by his mom. Definitly not the same kind of knuckle-head as the Cro in NY.

I remember that reasoning on his name. Anyway to separate from his cousin wouldn't be a bad idea.

He launched into the area of the QB's head and did so after the pass had been thrown. A player will get called for that every time.

Yep.

It wouldn't matter if the QB had turned 90 degrees to get out of the way and DRC had made contact with only his shoulder. He launched himself high. He's gonna get flagged for it...e'rry tiiiiime.

This. Whether or not you think it's OK, it violates the rule, plain and simple which makes it illegal.

for ****s sakes wrap up and plant your feet. That's one of the worst tackles I've seen yet.

If that isn't illegal then why even have the stupid rule. He leaves his feet, launches, and goes for the head of the QB. Then he tries to act like i used my shoulder.

It's like some of the NFL players just really ignorant of the rule. Going for qbs head, launching, is going to get called even if you don't use your helmet. How hard is that to grasp.

Dude it's football and should have been a clean hit. May as well start dressing the player in this. Last I heard this is a contact sport. Flame away if you will but I won't let them turn this into pansy ball without voicing my opinion.

If you watch close he pulls his head up and leads with the shoulder. Yes he does hit his head but you can tell he pulled back.

Not only was it obviously illegal, but he clearly went out of his way to avoid making an effective football play and instead jumped in the air to make sure he would have contact with the much taller player's head. If he was actually trying to play football, he would have kept his feet on the ground and driven through the body, as every defensive player is taught to do from the time he's five years old.
