Default Yahoo: Marshall and Cutler Finish What They Started Before McD

A decent read from Silver, mostly a pro-Bears piece. Yet another piece of evidence about the abortion that was the McD era. Relevant for tonight's matchup, preseason though it may be.

Bears Brandon Marshall, Jay Cutler look to finish what they started before Josh McDaniels' reign

By Michael Silver | Yahoo! Sports

Quote:
"We're playing the Broncos [Thursday], and I'm just looking at that logo," Marshall says, shaking his head. "It was one of those situations where a lot of us could have ended our career there. It sucked at the time when it was all blowing up but I think it happened for the best, and we're in a better place now because of it."
Quote:
McDaniels, a Bill Belichick disciple who was also given control of the front office, clashed with Cutler from the start. Marshall hated the decision to trade Cutler then and mocks it now.

"Maybe Josh would have done it again," Marshall says, "but maybe not. I don't know what he was thinking. I know a lot of people on the outside consider that a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very bad move.

"Did I say 'very'?"

Quote:
"It's kind of obvious that I handled it the wrong way," Marshall says. "But we were coming off an offseason where the owner and I sat down and he told me he would trade me, and it was kind of an emotional conversation. He let my agent start facilitating trades. We had a few teams that were ready. And I guess McDaniels went in and said, 'Let me have some more time.' And when I got back they said they weren't going to extend me or trade me."

Shortly before that infamous practice meltdown, Marshall recalls, McDaniels reversed course and told him the team was open to signing him to an extension. When Marshall balked at the team's offer, the conflict escalated.

He sent over some numbers, and it was honestly one of those things where, 'If you rush for four touchdowns, you can earn your number … '– you know, stuff that they control," Marshall says. "I was like, 'There's no way I can agree to that.' So when I got back we still weren't seeing eye to eye and he brought me in the office and said, 'Well now, it's conduct detrimental to the team if you don't do this, this and that.' And I said, 'Well, what happened to the contract you said we were gonna get done?'

Lots of other stuff in the article too, these are just a few excerpts.

My hate for Cutler and Marshall has waned a bit over the years but I definitely won't be rooting for them to have any success.

I'm glad Cutler and Marshall are gone and I'm glad Tebow is gone.

Marshall isn't done ****ing up his career. About 8 games into the season, when things aren't going so well, he'll start flapping his gums or screwing up off the field. As far as the Frown Cannon goes, I just hope Von knocks the snot out of him tonight so I can see him start whining at his Oline.

Both of them would've pissed and moaned their way onto other teams eventually in my opinion....Jay was pissed Mike got fired, and that led to him pouting, and his pouting got him traded, and that led to Brandon pouting cuz his favorite QB was gone...so he decided to act like a butt head himself...

All this wouldn't have happened had mike decided to build an actual defense...but regardless, we got a new HC and QB today and the sun still came up today

Having said that they both are talented guys who are capable of making opposing defenses look pretty bad....

Well he probably figured that he'd catch lightning in a bottle again like he did when he hired Mike Shanahan (who was a bit of a tyrant himself).

At the time he hired McDaniels, josh was considered a hot prospect who had presided over Brady's development, Matt Cassell going from back-up to moderately tolerable starter and was considered an offensive wunderkind......what he didn't anticipate and what eventually became apparent was josh was in over his head as a czar type HC/GM.

So josh deserved a HC job based on his resume' when Bowlen hired him....he also deserved to get fired for SpygateII and his W-L record being poor....

I do wonder what might have been had Josh and Jay been able to coexist...or had josh been able to work with Tebow another season...but the bottom line is that it's over...and we're headed in the right direction..and we got Peyton ****ing Manning!

Yep we got Manning and if the fiasco of the last 3-4 yrs works out to where we win with him, who cares about Cutler and McDaniels, or Marshall.

Marshall one of those players that IMO will be out of the league the second he loses any physical ability. He will be but I'm still better then many of these WR. The league will say we don't care you are friggin crazy.

At least Silver didn't cite the team chef again.

And I can't wait for the game tonight. Unfortunately I was in an airplane during the stadiums scrimmage, otherwise I'd have been there.
