Default NFL Network's Michael Lombardi fully expects Peyton Manning to struggle in the firs

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi fully expects Peyton Manning (neck surgeries) to struggle in the first quarter of the season after sitting out all of last year.

Quote:
Anyone expecting Manning to be on fire in September does not understand how hard it is to adjust (and re-adjust) to being back on the football field," emphasized Lombardi. "The Manning project in Denver will take time -- time for him to adjust to his new teammates, time for him to adjust to the speed of the game and time for him to adjust to getting hit again. No one -- not fans, not staff, not Manning himself -- will know if No. 18 is back to his old form until the middle of October, no matter what transpires before."

Tom Brady's first 6 games of 2009 after missing the 2008 season:

1724 yds
12 TDs
2 INTs
QB rating of 98

I think PM will have more trouble adjusting to his new Receivers. He no longer has Wayne or Clarke.

This is just vague smelly bologna. Probably said the same thing when Brady missed a year.

So, without adjusting for defensive rankings, based on the degree of how much better Peyton is than Brady, we can expect about 3400 yards, 24 touchdowns, 1 int, and a QB rating of almost 200.

God damn, it is good to have Peyton Manning.

....Except he wasn't suffering from serious lingering neck issues, wasn't 36, and wasn't playing with a different team in a relatively different system.

Lombardi=Mrs. Cleo

there is no film on the Broncos with Peyton Manning at QB. I expect the Broncos to start off fast and then fall back to the pack by the end of the season.....

Neck issues? I'd rather Manning's "neck issues" than a QB who has to wear an awkward knee brace and is gun shy about stepping into throws when the pocket is collapsing around him, for fear of busting his knee again.

I expect some growing pains, for sure. The offense has a lot of new parts. The TE's, new running backs, and obviously going from a 1930's throwback man-warrior to a cerebral pocket-passing surgeon. There are going to be some things to iron out as the offense looks for it's identity. That said, while I expect some miss-fires and some communication break-downs, I do expect we'll be a lot better than last year on offense. I mean a LOT better. And I believe by the end of the season we'll have a better feel for what the Broncos will look like on offense.

I think we're gonna surprise a lot of people. Manning's got a chip on his shoulder about the bonus irsay cut him to save (not so much that he needed the money but he made the indy colts matter). And just imagine what DT can do now that he's actually gonna learn a few routes!

Well way to go out on a limb there. Is he going to be rusty? Is he going to struggle a little being that he is with a new team and new players? More than likely. Ok, way to go out on a limb though.

That's bad. He doesn't just expect it. He "fully" expects it.

I don't think you can say Manning is that much better than Brady

Yeah... I'd be much more concerned about risking my knee, and maybe having difficulty walking again, than I would be about risking my neck and possibly spending the rest of my life in a wheelchair.

By the end of the season, how could we NOT have a better feel for what the Broncos will look like on offense?!?

First off his neck isn't a "lingering" issue....the nerves in his arm were a bigger concern....and he seems to be ahead of schedule in his gaining arm strength by almost every account. Doctors have cleared him and his neck....

As for the new system, from most accounts the staff is implementing alot of plays he's comfortable with...and that, coupled with allegedly a better running game than he's ever had before should help him a lot this season.

Toss in that he's just as hard a worker as anyone else in the NFL...and is a driven person...I think he'll have a very good to great season like always.

Isn't every player one good hit away from being in a wheelchair for the rest of their life?

So this means the end of the 2-7 for 20 yards at half time games?

Broncos offense will be slightly above average even with a struggling Manning. He really is that good and people have just sort of forgotten i guess. For him 225 yrds a couple of tds are childs play. We would have been happy to get that last yr. Where we are going to win games is our defense. Its going to be a whole lot better then people think.
