Default rod smith,ray rice,Adrian Peterson. ..

Rod smith was accused of physicly abusing his wife,he turned out to be a stalward member of his community,so....
who are we to deny these other two of a chance to turn their lives around?
the courts have had their legal say, rays spouce has forgivin her man,
we can hope that Adrian and his son now have a closer bond and better understanding of each other, who are we to judge, accuse, and deny?
oh,that's right I forgot, we,re bronco fans....never mind.

You are right, but it wasn't on tape and there was no twitter.

By all accounts Ray Rice before this incident was a model citizen that had many charities in the Baltimore area. I think he has paid enough of a price for this, as I think Adrian Peterson has paid enough of a price. These people are first time offenders. If you make the penalties too severe than other battered women will be much more reluctant to come forward if they know it will ruin the career of their husband. First time offense 6 games and some counseling sounds like enough punishment to me anyway.

I still am not sure if he is good enough to make a roster.

IDK, I highly doubt this is the first time he's hit a woman.

Difference is, that Rod was accused. There was never any definitive proof that he did anything. There was still possible doubt that she was just one of those women trying to get money and because of the time there wasn't widespread news like there is today to make the case have as much widespread attention as these cases got. In the cases of Rice and Peterson everyone knew and everyone got to have an opinion. Because of that teams have to worry about PR before signing anyone.

I think AP will be playing in the NFL next year. I to believe in second chances. I screwed up quite a bit as a kid and young adult. Sometimes it takes others longer to figure out doing the right thing is worth it in the end.

I would love if the Broncos at least brought the guy in next year to have a talk, then go from there.

AP and Rice are eligible for employment, so there is no reason to stop them from playing in the NFL. It's like people don't want to see players who have broken the law have a high paying job. I'm sure people would be fine with them working at the local fast food joint, but not in the NFL. It makes no sense.

If they have paid their debt to society, there should be no restrictions to the type of employment that they can obtain.

unless any of us are NFL owners or the NFL commissioner, none of us are denying them of anything, right?

None of us can deny them employment, but public perception plays a role.

I am not sure they can afford him. They will have trouble keeping the guys they have now. Maybe Peterson will be willing to take a low ball offer so he can watch Manning throw the ball.

I'm not quite sure what you are getting at. Do you mind a further explanation? I don't want to make assumptions.

Sure we can. We'll give him JT's money and pick up a blocking TE who can help carve out some room for AP. With that ground game, Sanders, DT and Lattimer will have plenty of space in the passing game.

I like your thinking. Good defense and good running game. Look at Seattle I'm not sure if they have a receiver that could start for the Broncos and they are a pretty good team.

no problem. I don't understand why posters perceive that people's perceptions are what's keeping these guys off the field. As if people have uniform perceptions to begin with and as if people are drawn to the NFL based on its professional wrestlingesque off-field storylines. TMZ and its ilk cares. I don't think a lot of fans would be up in arms one way or another. the media will tell people they care or will tell people they should care, and that's the tail that wags nfl. but as far as posters here on the OM or fans in general being the impetus for these guys or Incognito being held off the field, I don't think that's the case at all.

i think AP and ray rices cases are much different....ray rice was apologetic the entire time and owned up to what he did....AP was a P.O.S. from day 1...took no blame...made no apologies until goddell shut him down for the year...and even that was just him saying he wont use a switch again...bundle that with the other various off the field troubles hes been in I feel little remorse for that turdbag....but unfortunately at teh end of the day its all about money and skill...so only AP will get a fair shot at another deal.
