I don't know I'd go that far, but it is suspicious.

re-watch the 2012 playoff game vs Baltimore, but remember to hit stop before Baltimore's final possession in regulation.

or just look at how many penalties NE had called against it last year in 1-score games.

it's not suspicious, but it is entirely too subjective.

the rule book is filled with ticky tack rules that can be called on just about every single play of the game, so it becomes more about if/when a flag is thrown than whether a flag could be thrown. that's the problem.

the problem is the rule book and selective enforcement of the rules. SEA benefits from this tremendously.

spread was 5. They did appear to be doing everything in their power to make it a 22-17 game.

I thought Sea was among the most penalized team in the league. I know last year they were.

One dude alone is in double digits for penalties.

what i mean is that SEA has apparently determined that the refs won't throw flags on every play. they know they are going to get a couple called on them during a game. they've decided that's the price they pay for being physical on every play. even though that physicality results in actual violations of the rules on pretty much every play, it only ever affects them on those couple of plays where it's called. the rest of the time, they know they will get away with it because no ref wants to throw a flag on every single play for the same penalty over and over again. the ref knows that won't look good when he gets reviewed at the end of the week.

Seattle's opponents know how the Sea Chickens benefit from this too.

I generally think these threads are stupid, but I'm 100% sure the officials in the Jets game were on the take.

They need to do away with that holy roller rule. At least when it goes in the endzone.

It's suspicious when a ref misses blatent ****...the ones they're looking right at and still some how "miss it".

i'll go further. there are Colts players who insist to this day that the fix was in for SB III (Colts vs. Jets). they think Broadway Joe wasn't just predicting a Jets victory out of bravado... they think he knew something that they didn't.

so do I. this thread is half stupid because I forgot an option that included a mention of pro wrestling, forgot a thedave option, and left the Tim Donaghy option off.

there are some games where it's blatantly obvious they are trying to keep a game close or the officials grew up fans of a certain team. maybe this crew today just grew up wearing fake Fouts beards and watching Kellen Winslow get carried off the field and they suddenly remember they were SD fans once Denver got a comfy 2-score lead in the 3rd Q.

Maybe Bill Vinovich just grew up a huge Fader fan. Who knows.

Maybe a league as massive and profitable as the nfl really does struggle to field competent officials.

i seem to recall the DEN/NYG game during 2005 had some pretty blatant 1-sided officiating. they called some holding penalties late in the game that were pretty sketchy and this allowed NYG to win. that was the first time i realized that just a couple of mundane calls like that can affect the outcome of a game. it doesn't have to be bad calls on fumbles or first down spots... just calling holding at the right time, or not calling holding at the right time can swing the outcome of a game in the 4th quarter.

When you are dealing with a multi-billion dollar entertainment industry, you don't just leave everything to chance. The real question is, what is the extent of the tinkering?
