Default Manning = Cash Cow

Peyton Manning took Tim Tebow’s place as the Denver Broncos’ quarterback, and he has also topped Tebow in having the best-selling jersey in the NFL.

The NFL revealed today that Manning’s Broncos jersey has been the best seller on NFLShop.com over the last two months, with Tebow’s Jets jersey checking in at No. 2.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...elling-jersey/

And they said Bowlen couldn't afford to lose the cash flow from Tebow merchandise! Can't wait for the season to start!

EDIT: I admit to overlooking the fact that all the owners will split this money, Steven A. Smith voice HOWEVAH many people were suggesting that now that tebow is gone attendance, overall interest, and season ticket sales would fall. Regardless of where the money goes, I think this shows the fan base is clearly excited for the future.

All 32 teams are grateful for these numbers that don't benefit the Broncos exclusively in any substantive way.

Except that Bowlen makes the same amount off of every Tebow jersey as the other 31 owners in the league since merchandise is subject to revenue sharing.

The top of the list has players with new teams or rookies. I find it impressive when a player has been on a team for a while and is toward the top

It always amazes me that, no matter how many times this gets explained, people still don't get it.

While this is true, Bowlen does make more money off Tebow because of his heard of fans having to buy Jets jerseys now. It was a win for the owners for Tebow and Manning to switch teams.

I'm honestly surprised that Mario Williams isn't on that list. I know the economy is bad in Buffalo, but they must REALLY have no disposable income.

It's great for the Broncos to have a quarterback with so much fan interest that they make his jersey the #1 seller. I don't see any downside.

It will be interesting to see if D Thomas can crack the top 25 if he has a breakout season with Peyton Manning.

Let's just hope his head won't balloon if he does have a breakout season.

I worry about that. He is on record saying he is jealous of Calvin Johnson's payday.

who wouldn't be jealous of a friend who does the same job as you making huge bank like that?

i expect Decker to be a big seller at the end of the season, more than i do DT.

I know one guy who was a colts fan, huge manning fan. He is switching teams and is now a Bronco fan. So I think some people are just bandwagonning over to Denver.

Pretty sure that all of the money from a jersey sale does not go into the pot..

Pretty sure it is the licensing fees that are split..

Something sold in the Broncos stores on premises mainly goes to the Broncos that means profit margin is one hundred % Pats..

For each of them sold he sends the NFL the licensing fees..

More likely he pays wholesale for them the wholesaler sends the fees to the NFL..

There would be NO reason to sell a $70 dollar jersey in his store if he did not make a markup on it..

gotta say, i would have thought Luck would have supplanted Tebow since he was the golden boy. i know Indy is a smallish market that Manning lifted up but damn.
RGIII is marketing gold and he is going to make the Skins a lot of money in new ticket sales and marketing brand. he'll likely soon have the #1 jersey.

They may have the same job, but they haven't exactly had the same performance level at that job. Calvin's payday doesnt include being made of glass.

While Tebow and Manning obviously are players who generate an exceptional amount of excitement/attention no matter where they play and have some special circumstance surrounding their jersey sales, it's hard to overlook that the top selling jersey the last couple years has been a Bronco.

While our fanbase might not have the same national media reputation as the Steelers/Packer/Cowboys, at least in the midwest and western states (in my experience) there are few more widespread and fervent followings. Even after some lean years, it just takes a hint of promise to get millions of people fired up for a team that represents pro football to a large portion of the western US.

Raiders fans are like "hmm do I go with the McFadden jersey, or the Napoleon Kaufman...Tough choice, they are both so washed up."

To be fair the top four all are joining brand new teams and No. 5 won the Super Bowl MVP.
