Default Broncos' Champ Bailey still cornerback through and through

By Jeff Legwold
The Denver Post

Fourteen years into his NFL career and Champ Bailey said the video doesn't lie.
If he still runs like a cornerback, if he still covers like a cornerback, then the 33-year-old, 11-time Pro Bowl selection is still a cornerback. And that any late-career move to safety 'a la Hall of Famer Rod Woodson isn't even on his the radar.

"I still feel like a corner, I still see a corner," Bailey said Tuesday.
In his heart? Bailey is asked. "Yes, and in my legs," Bailey said. "And that's the most important, in my legs."Bailey, who is in his eighth season with the Broncos since a high-profile trade from the Redskins for Clinton Portis in 2004, doesn't see a move to safety in his near future. But it is something that would be a consideration, he said, if he continues to play into his 15th or 16th season and his weekly review of his work shows it to be on the horizon.

"It just has to make sense to me. I'm not looking to play safety," Bailey said. "So it would have to make sense, if it doesn't make sense I'm not doing it. I'm not going to do it just to do it, to save money on the cap or something.
"I'm a realist, though, if I see myself on tape and I think it's time to make a move, I'll know it's time to make a move, I'll be the first to see it, I'll be the first to know it," Bailey said, smiling. "In my mind, though, I might not say it right away, I might wait for somebody to ask."
His 11 Pro Bowl selections are the most by any cornerback in history. He finished the 2011 season with 39 tackles and two interceptions, having been matched up with the opponents' best receivers, all over the field, on a week-to-week basis, including Vincent Jackson and Brandon Marshall.

"At this point I just take it one year at a time. If I get through the year feeling good and playing good, I'm going to play the next year," Bailey said. "And so far, I've never felt any other way after any year. I've never had it enter my mind that I'm going to shut it down."

I think Champ is one of the happiest Broncos over the signing of Peyton. He has never had a solid passing quarterback on the other side of the ball in his 14 year career. It could be fun to watch him play if and when we get some big early leads this season.

you mean ever. there isn't a CB in Broncos history that can touch him.

If we can get leads and get after the QB...Champ and Porter could have a big years.
