Default Official Autographed Elway SB MVP ball for sale - help me pay for 2 kids' basketball camp

Mods, please move this wherever you need to.

So I have two teenagers going to basketball camp in June and I need to come up with $600.

Normally not a problem but we've had a family situation and some unforeseen bills the last 2 months that have pretty much drained the savings.

Normally I would tell the kids too bad, you can hit it next year but it's one of those situations where the coaches are like - don't go to these camps, don't plan on making the team. Even if you made the team last year which they did.

So in an effort to come up with some extra funds I decided one thing I could do is sell my John Elway autographed super bowl XXXIII ball. It's from the Atlanta game where he was MVP and it has it's certificate of authenticity.

Not my first choice but the ball is in a case in my closet and my kids mean a little bit more to me than the ball.

The same ball sells right now on Amazon and Sears.com for $644. The cheapest I have seen it for is $538 at Buy.com.

I'm asking $500 for it and that includes the display case.

If you are serious then PM me and we'll talk further. If you are in Utah along the Wasatch Front or as far north as Logan, I can meet you personally.

Thanks.

I posted the original message at work so the photo is the same ball but an image from Amazon. I will have to take a photo of my ball with case and add it later.

The case is just a simple plexiglass display case with a dark base. I want to say the base was like $25 new.

It was displayed at my old office but since I have had my current job, it has been sitting on a shelf in my closet collecting dust.

Good luck that is a good cause.

On a side note that coach is kinda black mailing you isn't he. I'd look into changing schools doesn't sound like a good coach that needs to threaten someone with not making the team because they couldn't make an optional (for cost) basketball camp. Probably not even legal in a public school system.

Ya that sounds odd the coaches would say that and doesnt sound legal at all if it's a public school. Those coaches are too dumb to have their own camp? Or are they in charge of this camp and pocketing the money?

This is common practice in public schools now. My wife's cousin and a friend of mine's child are going through the same thing right now. Multisport athletes will soon be a thing of the past, unless you're scholarship-good.

my coach used to set up the same kind of system

however, there are programs where you can "work" and go to the camps and pay nothing. Basically you spend an extra hour or two each day either serving and cleaning up after lunch or dinner

you should look into that if all else fails

It's stupid. Better coaches would realize multi-sport athleticism only helps DEVELOP the kid for their own sport.

Yeah but it's not about development. It's about money and notoriety. 90% of coaches can't rest on the "I got kid X a scholarship to college" strategy, so they fill kids' minds with false hope by getting them into these "exclusive" camps. Pretty sickening.

Been that way for years. 25 years ago I went to camps my parents couldn't afford because if you didn't "there was no way you would make the team".

I know plenty of kids who went and still didn't make the team.

Both camps are camps on college campuses so the money goes to pay for the camp and the rooms and the food. One is just over $300 and the other is $282.

Like I said, we've had some other stuff happen the last 60 days that have made this harder to pay for now so I'm just looking for ways to help fund it. If it was happening in July or August it wouldn't be an issue (I hope!)
