Default guess which NFL player was the highest paid in 2011 (the answer may surprise you).

it wasn't Tom Brady. it wasn't Peyton Manning. it wasn't Drew Brees.

he earned $34M in NFL salary last season. that's more than any other player.

Okay so Charles Johnson, a very very good defensive lineman, not quite as good as Julius Peppers, or Mario Williams, or even Jarred Allen. Gets paid more than all of them in 2011, gets paid more than Brady, Manning, or Rodgers.

Okay so DeAngelo Williams, a good runningback, not quite as good as Aaron Foster, or Adrian Peterson, or Matt Forte, or Jamal Charles, or Ray Rice, or okay you get the picture. This guy gets paid as much as both Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson in guaranteed money, and makes it very difficult for Chicago or Baltimore to afford runningback contracts with their star players.

Must be really good negotiating for contracts with the Carolina Pantherns, must feel like you are Mike Shanahan negotiating with the Cleveland Browns for trades.

I love that they include a competitive eater in a story about athletes.

$34 million and he still hasn't got that birthmark removed from his face.

They front-loaded the **** out of it so they'll have tons of cap to spend on other players in the future.

Smart move by the Panthers...unless as someone else said, he holds out to get more money.

See, I would think that'd be smart, but didn't the Redskins and Cowboys get punished for doing just this?

They were punished for doing it in the uncapped year.

It also means that if he gets injured or his production slips in anyway, he keeps that big fat 30 million dollar paycheck and laughs to the bank while the panterns have the 30 mil distributed against the cap for however many years he was signed for.

The front loading is exactly what has got Revis talking holdout again. They gave him two years at a pumped up salary and two years at a fairly low one but were stupid enough to put the pumped up years first. He played the two for a lot already and now he's giving them the finger on the other two. Playing salary cap games always gives one side or the other too much influence on the process. It's why the idea of the Eagles of a few years ago to pursue 8 year contracts just won't work in the NFL.

Johnson recorded 9 sacks last year.

That's nearly $4 million for each sack.
