Default GOP skeptics reject 'Buy American' bill in Colo.

Jobs rightards...jobs!

DENVER—A Democratic proposal to give preference to state contractors that use American-made materials failed Thursday in a Republican committee.
The "Buy American" bill to give domestic manufacturers an edge failed on a 4-4 party-line vote. A majority is needed for a bill to advance.

The vote continued a dominant theme of the legislative session that began in January—both parties have suggested ideas to boost jobs, but lawmakers have struggled to convince the opposing party their proposals would help. The result has been rejection after rejection in the divided Legislature.

The "Buy American" bill cleared the Democratic Senate earlier this month, but all Republicans in that chamber voted against it. Then it went to the Republican House committee that on Wednesday rejected another Democratic jobs proposal, a plan to give contracting preference to bidders that agree to employ Colorado workers.

So what do you say to the objections that people (not just Republicans, as I see there is Dem opposition to this too) have raised? You DO know what those are, don't you?

Can you demonstrate if and how many jobs would be created (not saved, that's an Obama myth) by passing this bill? You DO know what those are, don't you?

I'm curious, have you read the bill?

so...the answer is...no?

p.s. Read up, Gladys. I'm no W supporter and never was. if you say the bill will create jobs, pardon me for not taking you at your unreliable word. why should I read the bill, am I a citizen of Colorado, let alone an elected legislator? My question to you is why spout off about this if you haven't bothered to understand the other side's argument? That's not hypocritical, it's just reasonable.

once again, are you able to just answer a question? are you or are you not familiar with the arguments against the bill? you don't seem to be able to respond with any semblance of coherence, so i'll surmise you are not. heck, it took me 3 minutes to find legitimate, reasonable, and unanswered objections to this bill. you repped about 'Chinese takeover', but the objections to the bill don't even mention China. hint: it's got nothing to do with China. back to your homework, i guess.

and in fact, i posted about the newly proposed farm regulations and actually DID take time to read the actual rulemaking proposal on the Federal Register and 'Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to Amend the Child Labor in Agriculture Regulations' from the DOL site. i quoted 'em and everything! Verify here:

oh, and 'of course the bill creates jobs, nancy' is a pretty weak response. heck, at least lie to us like Obama and Romer claiming it'll create 10's of millions of jobs, will be a deficit buster, and will revive the recently extinct cotton candy unicorn.

I'd say this is more of the same crap, like your "shovel ready" type jobs bill where the jobs don't start taking place for 5 years until the usual red tape is settled. It is a slam dunk to help the economy, but took until 2012 to come up with it.
