Looks to me like we have about $27M remaining (including 2011 rollover). I added in Marcus Thomas for fun. Funny that they rolled $26M over from last year, but won't use it. If you factor in draft picks allocation, the Broncos are probably somewhere around $22M under the 2012 cap.

I THINK he's mistaken. It ate up their "budget," not their cap space

Yep. At the start of free agency, Elway said something like "We'll spend up to our cash budget". He made no mention of the salary cap, which is pretty lame considering this team is gearing up for a Super Bowl run.

Joe Mays and DJ Williams are both very average players, and are both making way too much money.

I don't think so. He was slow to start because of the injuries but he went 8 straight games with at least part of a sack and Denver won all but two of those games I believe. I think he is going to be scary next year, like his best year ever good.

With Miller getting in a full year of work and, in theory, the offense scoring more, he sure could.

This is what I've been saying for a while. Pat Bowlen is broke! He had to take out a loan in order to sign Manning. This is why we are only signing bottom of the barrel free agents, other than Manning. It's a cash flow problem. Bowlen is only worth what the Broncos are worth...he doesn't have any extra to reach for. All they have is what's in the operating budget.

Think "Moneyball"....that's what this team is counting on...

"Cash-wise we'll spend more than cap this year," John Elway, the Broncos' head of football operations, said today. "But that's where it comes down to how everybody accounts and how the numbers get skewed. Whether you're over the cap or under the cap it just comes down to the accounting."

In 2011, the Broncos spent $117.5 million in cash on salaries, or 98 percent of the $120.375 million salary cap. The cap is expected to again come in at $120.375 million for the 2012 season.

"That $3 million difference, we'll roll that over to this year," Elway said. "And that really came from the savings of (Kyle) Orton, so we'll have that money to spend this year."

Sounds like they only plan on spending ~$125M...and that's nowhere close to the $146M that they can spend under the cap.

So you think he is broke and took out a loan to pay for Manning because he didn't spend an extra 19 million?

I think Bowlen has an annual cash budget, which does not exceed the salary cap. Evidence of this, was the Broncos 2011 budget. Last years NFL salary cap was $120.375M, yet the Broncos cap figure was $94M (hence the $26M rollover). The Broncos may claim they "spent" $117M, but that was not the cap figure.

Once again, the Broncos are planning on spending up to the 2012 $120.6M cap (plus $3M extra that they saved from releasing Kyle Orton last year). Which is complete, and utter bullsh*t, because they still have about $27M in cap space, mostly rolled over from last year. What is Bowlen's reason for not utlizing the extra cap space? I don't know, and I don't really care...but it's crap. We have the cap space, and Peyton Manning...they CAN spend the money, but WON'T.

Just what "star" do you want Bowlen to toss this extra cap room at? How about we keep the extra money and roll it over and use it on a player worth a **** next year OR maybe lock up some of our guys like Clady.

Free agency is done for all intents and purposes. There are plenty of players the Broncos could have signed to improve this team, but didn't (a starting UT would have been nice). There were specific positions that obviously needed upgraded, that didn't happen (MLB, UT, SS, C, OG). The Broncos had a couple downgrades, as well (NT, WR). I have no idea what the CBA rollover cap rules are from year to year, but there is no reason to believe the Broncos would use it next year either.

WOW more folks spending everyone else's money.. Sounds like loads of DUmocrats on here..

we spend what we spend ..

If Y'all do not think PAt is putting money into the club buy him out and spend it..

I'm pretty grateful that Pat spent hundreds of millions in years past for naught.. always chasing that brass ring with over paying morons and winding up with nothing but dead cap space..

Give the guy a break, is it bad that he wants to see something more from his money ..

I susepct Y'all are forgetting there is a draft coming up as well as TC cuts and late cuts due to cap space they are also coming down the line..

Denver is a top revenue team. Sold out stadium since the 60's.

How many ok DT's have signed w/ other teams cheap? Pay a little extra for their service (pre Manning) and we could have plugged major hole in middle of D.

So last year the Broncos cash spent was almost all the way up to the cap ceiling.

But this year, even before the draft, final free agency, player incentives earned during the season, emergency signings reserved for injuries, AND extending some of our younger players like Clady, etc you're claiming they WON'T spend any more.

The fact is NO ONE knows what the final cash spend is going to be for the Broncos given the above variables, yet you're already pronouncing Bowlen as unwilling to spend money based on just three months into the year even though this premature conlusion is contradictory to their manner of total cash spend last year.

How hilariously stupid.

Correct me if I am wrong, but when you roll the money over into the next spending season, I don't think you can roll it over again and just keep rolling it into every season like its built up interest. Having said that, if that is indeed the case, I would start extending my core players a few more years with that money...

They ask Vickerson to take a pay cut, why not make Warren take one too? What other options does he have? But I guess the same question could be asked of the Broncos...
