Where did it say they are unhappy with management? Justin Houston has nobody but himself to blame for his current contract. He lost money when he fell to the 3rd rd due to his failed drug test at the combine.

I think they will use Flowers cap savings for Jamaal, Houston will get Tamba's $9 million in cap savings once he's gone next spring and Alex will get money from the raised cap and cap savings from players like Sean Smith (5th highest contract on team right now) being a cap casualty.

KC doesn't need brokebackcharles, they scored like 45 points without him.

It's going to funny when the Chiefs break the bank just to keep some of these guys and then next offseason they have no money for receivers again.

After the work load Reid put him under last year he knows he is close to being run into the ground and wants one last payday to make it worth all that punishment he took as the focal point of the O.

Not a bad move for him, he gets to rest his legs and recover a little longer while trying to get paid for all the fields he plowed Reid and Smith like a farmers single ox.

Plus if he holds out kFc can score 45 points without him...and still LOSE!

Smith says he don't need no Mr.Charles. He's one of the top QBs in the league.

Didn't you see the game. Alice led a team to 45 points. Don't mind the gifted points 45 is 45. That is 20 million per year guys.

@HerbieTeope

We're less than five minutes from when media session ends. Have not seen RB Jamaal Charles or OLB Justin Houston yet.

Wow, I thought Houston said he was going to attend. I think that is the hold out that will go on the longest. They can live without a one trick pony pass rusher but not the guy their entire O is built around.

I was joking, yes. Just getting a jump on the spin before KCStud had a chance.

Gimme some more credit than that.

I thought this guy was out of the NFL...

Elway could offer him a ham sandwich with pickles and he would leave the offer sitting on Andy's desk and run for the airport.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet

Jamaal Charles and the #Chiefs have struck a deal, source says. He’s heading to camp now.

Interesting to see what they gave him.

7-8 mil is probably fair, if it's more eh.

@AdamSchefter Chiefs giving Charles a 2-year extension that makes him 2nd-highest paid RB in league and ties him to KC for 4 seasons.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet 2m It’s a 2-year extension for #Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles worth $18M in new money, source says. Extra $5M over the next 2 years. Top 5 RB money

Hopefully it's a Larry Johnson esque contract.

That's a good contract for KC. Doesn't tie up salary for too long, but keeps him in KC for likely the prime of his career.

Indeed. Seeing the Chiefs sinking Peyton Manning money into a running back makes me happy.

You think he'll still be in his prime at 31-32?

Well, he's 27 now. So, he'll be 30 years in December of year 3 of the deal. I think he should be in his prime for that, at least. There's a chance he declines a bit for the last year of the deal, but think overall it's worth the risk if you are KC. They couldn't risk a hold out by Charles, as he is too valuable to what their team does on offense.

Seems to be a fair deal to both sides, if you ask me.

The question is more, can they afford to sign Smith and Houston?
