Houston wants a new deal and is boycotting the OTA's.

I also heard on ESPN NFL Insiders that someone from kFc complained that there was too much contact during Reid's rookie camp...the NFL is hard.
Gaines showed up to camp 10 pounds lighter then he weighted at the combine. I guess that is s issue he has had in the past.

By this logic, then Peyton Manning owns Alex Smith.

Also - Elway and Montana head to head went 3-3. Smith has a long way to go until he is no longer owned by Manning pursuant to your always infallible logic.

The Chiefs can save $7.25 million against the salary cap this year if they designate CB Brandon Flowers as a post-June 1 cut.

Per CBS Sports' Joel Corry, the Chiefs would also save $7.5 million against the 2015 salary cap. Kansas City likely wants to get something in return for the Pro Bowl corner, but it already doesn't have much cap room and could use the money to pay guys like OLB Justin Houston, Jamaal Charles, and Alex Smith. Flowers didn't report to OTAs Tuesday and is believed to be on the block. Due a $2 million bonus for reporting to training camp, Flowers' days are likely numbered.

But using your own criteria Montana was a failure because he didn't even get to a SB let alone win one for kFc...

Failure is your only option isn't it Studly?

KCStud told me that they already drafted Flowers' replacement.

Frankly, I'm surprised he's even still on the roster.

According to spotrac, the Chiefs would incur a $7M cap hit in 2014 if they cut Flowers. They would have the remaining $3.5M of Flowers $10.5M salary available to overpay for Alex Smith (if they wish).

He's doesn't fit in the press man scheme very well, he's always hurt with nagging injuries and he's getting paid too much (thanks Pioli).

He doesn't deserve to be a top 5 highest player on the team when Justin Houston and Eric Berry need new contracts

OR according to the NFL....

June 1 represents an important day in the calendar year for the NFL. It is a day when various rules and tenders change.

The biggest impact for teams involves the modification of salary cap accounting rules for players whose contracts will be terminated after June 1 or whose contracts were terminated with the “Post June 1” designation. Prior to June 1 any player removed from a teams roster, either by release or trade, will have all their remaining salary cap allocations accelerate into the current League Year. For example a player with $1 million in prorated money from 2014 to 2017 whose contract is terminated will carry a “dead money” charge of $4 million in 2014.

However, after June 1 that “dead money” charge now splits between two seasons. Once released the team only needs to account for the current years prorated money in their 2014 salary cap accounting. All future years’ prorated money will now land as “dead money” in 2015. So for the example player above the “dead money” charges will equal $1 million in 2014 and $3 million in 2015. In practice this rule allows teams with underperforming, high priced players to release players before the season and remain salary cap compliant. If such a rule did not exist many teams would have a difficult time, with their salary caps often tight, to release a player with high prorated charges.

They have the June 1st option to cut on over the cap FYI. KC goes from 4.4 million to 11.4 with that option. You're welcome

Seriously, I don't understand what the Chiefs are doing. The moves they're making are real head-scratchers. I guess we'll see how it turns out.

They have multiple dudes staying away from OTA's because of contract issues and drafted a DE high when they needed a WR who was not a project Oh and they let their best OL leave without getting anything for him.

They do like some dude named Kelcy who was hurt last year, they think he will stretch the field for Alice and they drafted a guy that they don't know where he will play (O or D) but he is fast so they got that going for them.

I really think they are just treading water until Manning retires.

It's not hard to understand. Tamba is going to decline very soon so we needed a replacement next year. Plus he has a huge cap number so it's time to move on bc he'll be 32 at that point.
Brandon Flowers is 5th on the payroll while Houston and Berry will need new deals very soon, so we drafted a CB.
Also happens to be that pass rusher and DB hurt us the most down the stretch, so they were big needs.

Gotta plan for the future as well as the present.
