Default John Mobley's 1996 preseason

Anybody remember his 12 tackle performance against the Niners? He was also a candidate to return punts. Which Broncos rookie brought you the most excitement with his play in preseason? Elway? Miller? Mobley?

Terrell Davis, obviously.

Clinton Portis was another for me.

Yeah that was huge, but I don't think anyone could even fathom what TD ended up being capable of at that point.

I agree with TJ, I think it was Portis...we had all seen him at Miami, and he was taken high enough in the draft that we could expect an immediate impact out of him.

Portis went 48-224-4.7-2 in the preseason. Behind an already proven line and blocking scheme, I think everyone at that point was excited to go into the season with him.

First practice, Portis went into the huddle with the first team even though he was third on the depth chart.

Portis was a beast.

Still would make the trade any day of the week though.

Yeah.

It's one of those things...it's like I'm so glad I married my wife, but...remember that hot piece of ass I had for a time about 15 years back?

Portis was fun to watch. He could take it to the house any play. He could have put up video game numbers...

Vance Johnson's rookie year in 1985 preseason against the Rams he had I believe 180 yards receiving in the 1st half. Peyton loves those small quick WRs it would be awesome if we had a WR like The Vance.

Didn't Spencer Larsen get a couple TD like special teams licks in durring his rookie preseason?

Help my memory on this one...
There was a great punter battle one preseason involving Brett Kern, but can't remember if the other guy was Sam Paulescu or Britton Colquitt. I just remember both guys were nailing their punts. They were both pinning them inside the 10 too. And if I recall correctly one of them turned a botched snap into a first down and the other guy made a highlight reel type tackle to save a return.

I was pretty excited about nabbing Javon Walker going into 2006. Just went to the AFC Championship the year before... then everything hit the fan.

I remember Mark Jackson taking a short pass all the way to the house in preseason. Never forget how excited I was.

Not only that but the thread is about preseason performance, not hype. Maybe that is what you were hinting at but I don't recall Walker setting the world on fire in preseason.

Atwater blowing a lot of people up in preseason games, I wish I could remember better but absolutely destroyed somebody in a goal line situation and I remember thinking, hmmm, we might be on to something here.

Yeah. He got fined for turning Gino Torretta into mush. I think people forget how good Mobley was before he blew out his knee.
