We're in the final 4 for Gay. I assume it's either him or Porter ... not both? |

Porter's the target, they are waiting to see if he is suspended first.

I read the player discipline might not come down for a while. I can't imagine Gay will wait around that long to decide.

I'm ok with waiting for Porter. Gay as well as the entire Steeler secondary is overated. They are a product of a great front seven.

to piggy back off elway 4 life i agree they benefit from a great pass rush but i think the plan is to get our front 7 just as good
. ive heard that only team captain will be penalized from the saints bounty scandal. leaving porter off the hook. i also really doubt he had much to do with it hes a small speedy corner i dont think hes ever been accused of anything and would love to have him on our team. |

I'm not sure why they don't offer Porter a contract today, with some clause built in to negate it or at least negate some of the signing bonus if he's suspended. People do it all the time.

It would be awesome if we could sign either one of these guys, it would take a huge amount of pressure off this year's draft. I feel like our first round pick is too low to get us a top corner, and too high for the second tier.
If I look at what is in our range, I really like the upside of Stephon Gilmore from South Carolina, but I think he goes in the first 10 picks of round 2. If there were a trading partner there (or we could move up for him by kicking in our extra fourth rounder), I think he would be worth it. |

Bringing in William Gay may mean the end of Andre Goodman as a Bronco... I believe Goodman cap hit to keep him may be too high.. plus he is getting long in the tooth what 11 years in the NFL.

I think Stephon Gilmore is very likely the pick at #25 for the broncos. The top 3 rated CBs will be gone by then.

I also believe that Gilmore has a great amount of upside. With some good coaching, he can be an extremely good #1 corner in the future. Big, physical, fast kid that should only get better.

I don't see Kirkpatrick getting past 20. Slim pickins at CB after Claiborne. Jenkins might fall if he buys a bong in the next month.

I would only advocate Porter.. Goodman can be replaced.

this. You can write a contract that says null and void should he get suspended, or that you don't have to pay him for the games he's suspended.

with the way the game is now i don't see Kirkpatrick nor Jenkins slipping past #23. too many teams are seeing the Pats TE's and wanting to be able to give single coverage to their WR's and hope that they can have their front 7 resemble the Giants.

you still have to give him guaranteed bonus money and i bet you that's the hold up more than anything. they don't want to sign him to a nice deal, fork over a nice chunk of dough and then have him sit for a few games.
you can't say you didn't know it wasn't possible so you can't take it back. |

he'll just leverage that with another team and use it as the frame work to get a better deal(for him in terms of protection against a potential suspension).
no agent would let their client sign that when they're up for their first big payday. |

You're probably right but what other team will give him any $ upfront knowing he might get suspended? That's like flushing $ down the toilet. If another team does that, so be it.

it only takes one idiot to set the market. i didn't think Bunk would get 25 mil, didn't see Garcon getting 42, one team that has a clear need and willingness to pay and receive rather than balk and lose out on is all that is needed.
cause that team might be thinking his price tag is x amount of money and he shows them a offer from Denver that lower than their expectations so they fork it over willingly. |

Lestat,
If we're going to get outbid for him, we're going to get outbid for him. I'd rather know that now, then weeks down the road or whenever Goodell gets around to making the announcement. There's no benefit to waiting if you want the guy and know what you'd be willing to pay for him (again, if he's not suspended). |

you're addressing the wrong guy. i'm advocating that we sign him now.
my other posts were counterpoints to tombstone saying we can offer him a highly team favorable contract where we get a lot of protection if he was suspended(which his agent wouldn't let him do, nor should he) Quote:
