Default We'll be lucky to get KC/Montana-like stats out of Peyton

Let's be realistic here, Peyton will be a shadow of his former self. Dude's been out of football for over a year due to health issues (not out +1 year because he killed dogs). We face a very real possibility of him not even making it a full year. All I'm saying is - we've all seen this type of QB excitement in Denver before as soon as a QB is signed - only to be let down later. Let's keep expectations low, so we can be pleasantly surprised later.

Montana's last two years on KC produced this (let's expect around the same from Peyton):

Year Team GP Att Com Pct Yds TD Int Rating
1993 Kansas City Chiefs 11 298 181 60.7 2,144 13 7 87.4
1994 Kansas City Chiefs 14 493 299 60.6 3,283 16 9 83.6

What a ****ing retarded thread. Seriously, after all the exams, and team physical, and the workouts, you actually think that he is not capable of playing up to his old ability. Why would Elway go after him just because of his name if he knew he can't play like before? Stop it already with stupid threads like these. If Elway knew this guy is incapable of playing at an MVP level then he wouldn't go after him. PERIOD.

Welcome to Denver Manning !!!!!!

Elway staking his reputation as a VP on Peyton Manning? Probably a smart move.

If those are the kind of numbers we wanted, we could've just stuck with Tebow.

Well, it is up to the Broncos who convinced Manning they can and will build a contending team to start doing so and surround him with better talent. Manning at this stage of his career can not be expected to carry this team, so others on in all phases on this team need to step up. That especially means Clady.

i disagree. it is a different age of football. the league goes through so much crap to protect their moneymakers and Peyton is a moneymaker.

also, i hate the Montaa comparisons to any good QB, because Montana was an average QB on stacked teams. Montana in his prime wasn't as anywhere near good as Manning in his. and at the end i would take a recovering injurer Manning over an overrated Montana.

All I'm saying is, keep expectations low. Hell, he still needs to pass a physical before his next contract even becomes official.

His neck is healed - but NO ONE has officially said his throwing arm is back to where it was. That's kind of an important thing as a QB to have.

I think most people (including Elway, Fox and Xanders) believe that they're getting Manning from 2005, the reality is that he's not nearly as good as he was back then, even before the injuries:

Quote:
Manning's performances have consistently declined, almost step by step, year after year since that signature 2004 season. Here's a look at Manning's annual production since peaking in 2004.

Season Comp. Att. Comp. % Yards YPA TD TD % INT INT % Rating
2004 336 497 67.6 4,557 9.2 49 9.9 10 2.0 121.1
2005 305 453 67.3 3,747 8.3 28 6.2 10 2.2 104.1
2006 362 557 65.0 4,397 7.9 31 5.6 9 1.6 101.0
2007 337 515 65.4 4,040 7.8 31 6.0 14 2.7 98.0
2008 371 555 66.8 4,002 7.2 27 4.9 12 2.2 95.0
2009 393 571 68.8 4,500 7.9 33 5.8 16 2.8 99.9
2010 450 679 66.3 4,700 6.9 33 4.9 17 2.5 91.9

Manning put up gaudy volume numbers in 2010, his last on the field. But in reality, his efficiency -- the numbers that win and lose football games -- had fallen off the face of the earth.

From: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...#ixzz1paO2p3nu

Tebow is very likely to get better, while Manning is very likely to get worse. I suspect that the difference between the 2 in passing stats won't make up for the lack of a running game.

Who is Manning supposed to throw the ball to besides Thomas?

Eric Decker has shown some solid ball skills when he had Orton throwing to him. Admittedly, he did struggle with Tebow's spin on the ball for whatever reason.

Frankly, I'm not worried about our WR situation. I think it'll get taken care of.

Eric Decker tied for sixth most receiving touchdowns in the NFL, third in the AFC.

and yet the Colts won the SB in 2006-07 and got to the SB in 2008-9 so maybe these stats don't tell you everything?

I read some articles where people trying sign him (and people close to him) said they believed his arm strength is back. I know he was medically cleared to play and his neck was declared healed by doctors - I haven't seen a report saying that doctors said his arm was fully back to 100%

Only one qb in the last 25 years has won a SB over the age of 35 , that being Elway.
I don't see Payaton getting us there and think this move will be seen as a fail years from now.

This was basically a way to get out from under Tebow and save face by being able to say you can't turn down the chance to get a 4 time mvp and get the Tebow circus out of town.

What a joke this team has become tho since Shanny left.

We have a young stud qb who we trade for a hill of beans then we reach and draft a kid who's not prototypical and or traditional. He does ok but needs a lot of work and shows promise at times and we dump that for a stop gap we will be looking to replace in 3 years... Brilliant.

I see this as nothing more then a way for our FO to get out from under Tebow and it seems the media agrees. And that's lame.
