The $35.4m was made up from a $28m option bonus (The real reason why he was cut) and $7m odd in base salary/other bonuses.

There's no way they could. Theyd have to dump quite a bit of contracts

If those contract #'s are correct - 2 years - $61.4 million - it just shows Manning doesn't really care about winning a Super Bowl. Hell at the point he should be saying to himself that he's made his money and get some talent out here.

$30 million this year could cover - Tolbert, Winston, Trufant, McClain, Landry, Bunkley, Nate Jackson

An NFL source said Manning and his camp have narrowed their choices to the Broncos, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers.

Oh, and next week the Seahawks. Oh, and then there's the Cowboys. Oops, looks like the Dolphins might get back in it. , and now it appears that Baltimore has called the Manning camp. Oh, and...

I'm thinking it's more like $18m per year.

Matt Flynn

If his own coach(philbin) doesn't want to sign him what's that say about Flynn? He knows the most out of any team and if he's not interested that's not a good look.

"Narrowing" usually means a reduction in number or options. All he's done here is "swapping". *****.

The $18m hit they took was in remaning bonus money/restructured money from his existing contract, i,e dead caproom.

Ok I get it. But people need to stop being hypocrites. Either Manning is playing for the money of he is playing for the Legacy. When we mentioned Tennessee we would discredit them by arguing that they could offer all the money they want...but we could offer the Legacy. Guess what... the 49ers offer the best legacy. And if Manning is true to his words then he will pick the 49ers. If not...it was all about the money... and in that regard we lose to a crazy man in TEN.

The 2 years $61.4m was what he would've been paid over the last 2 years with the Colts had he remained on the team.

Winston's looking more than 1/2 that in up front money/guarantees.

nope...it's been done before. Just look at what the steelers did. They had to cut like 38 mil... and the only lost 3-4 ancient players. They restructured a bunch of the contract of their top guys. Look it up. It very possible.

One thing you have to understand is the top guys like Manning and Brady get a lot of pressure from the NFLPA to maximize their market value because it sets the market for other players. Brady got a lot of **** back around 2005 or thereabouts when he took a 6 year $60 million deal that was viewed as being below his market worth. It's not just a matter of Manning being greedy.

Everything I've read about Peyton's old contract said 5 years for 90 though. How does that work?

Yep. He's shopping for a payday. Somebody needs to remind him he's not a LT.

Nah. This is nothing. We carried over $27 million in cap room from last year under the new rules. We still have $15 million in cap space if this deal goes through.

This is brilliant because we're offering more in guaranteed money than either team has in cap space and could hope to match.

They'll need about $5 million to sign their rookies.

Yeah, it's not Peyton. He'd happily hand over the millions, but he doesn't wanna get the old evil eye from the union rep.

Meanwhile his teammates make less money to make room for him. Apparently they're more benevolent than the NFLPA.

Besides, payroll figures are soon to have a floor and a ceiling in place for a long long time. Encouraging QB's to eat more and more of that just makes less pie available for everyone else.

No idea, I only know what he was going to be paid this season. The Colts would've paid that $28m but spread the hit over the remaining 4 years of his deal giving him a cap hit of near $18m, as it is they only saved cash by releasing him, no caproom.

The way Klis said that those are the parameters hopefully was just deceiving.

What would Winston's actual cap # for 2012 be though?

Brilliant in that we've only got $15 left to fill more holes than we can count. Brilliant in that we're paying more than anyone else could HOPE to pay?

Sounds insane to me.
