That's my whole concern with it is that for that price we could fill multiple of our other needs instead of addressing one need when we don't even know for how long this would shore up our QB situation. It seems a little suspicious how he wants most of the money in the first two years, to me thats a red flag. Who knows he may not plan to play more than those two years if his neck even allows that much.

Oh its about the Money. And if they say its not about the money its still about the Money.... We just need Peyton to get on that plane today....

Niner fans calling in all day saying they don't want manning. Saying this is just leverage to lower smiths contract. Condon gets paid either way.

Kolb gets his millions.

When will this prick make up his mind? Dude had 5 full days BEFORE FA even started, now we're 3 full days into FA.

I'm disgusted with the prick already and he's not even on the team. F him.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post has now updated his report and said that what Manning is actually seeking is a contract like the one he signed last year with the Colts, which was for five years and $90 million, with a whopping $61.8 million in the first two years.

Thatís a whole lot of money, but Klis writes that both the Broncos and Titans are fine with that contract, if thatís what it takes to land Manning. If the reports that the 49ers are the third finalist for Manning are true, presumably that means the 49ers are fine with that contract, too.

Some reports have suggested that Manningís contract will be structured to protect the team that signs him in the event that his neck prevents him from playing in 2012, as it did in 2011. But if Manning is back in the NFL this year, as he expects to be, he also expects to be one of the leagueís highest-paid players. And the teams that covet him are fine with that.

Mario just signed a 6 year $96m deal, avg $16m a season. His cap hit for 2012 is less than $10m.

If Denver are lucky enough to get Manning and they want to add more players to make a run this year and next, then there is plenty of caproom for that. I've said all along it's a cash issue and whether Bowlen is prepared to release the kind of money needed for an instant push.

Denver could do Manning's deal for around $10m in cap this season, leaving them still $35m to add more players. It's entirely up to them how they work that part of it as long as Peyton gets the money he needs now. The 5 year contract in reality will only be 2-3 years but it also allows the team who signs him to spread the signing bonus hit over more years. It'll cost them capwise in year 4 if he only lasts 3 in dead caproom but I dont think we'll be looking 4 years ahead right now.

K, so with a salary cap of $120 mil, it doesn't matter whether Peyton makes $10 mil a year, or $60 mil a year. Everyone else can get paid the same.

Like Eddie pointed out, the cap number can be manipulated. Just because the deal may be 5 years $90 million does mean his cap hit would be $18 million. You do realize the salary cap has existed for nearly 20 years now, don't you?

Wait what could the reasoning be for him not throwing a pass when he was scheduled to?

Well, sounds like they know Manning isn't going to sign them no matter what, or they got the deal done, and had no need to see him throw.

Just wait a few minutes. There will be a conflicting report of how well Manning threw in front of the Broncos brass today.

Based on? If Manning didn't throw a pass, that could signal that they struck a deal. Or he might have told them he was going to sign elsewhere. The latter makes less sense, though, because Manning could have told them on the phone this morning not to bother making the trip.

They would've made a bigger deal about it if Manning was getting on the plan with them, surely?
