the loser of the O's/Yanks 1-game playoff would be the #2 WC because the A's won the season series over both the O's and Yanks, so the A's would get the home field advantage. i'm not sure if game #163 for the O's/Yanks counts as a regular season game or not now. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/po...-out-scenarios |

The AL is going to be sorry for letting the Tigers in the playoffs IMO.
With how amazing Scherzer has pitched, him with Verlander is a devastating duo, and Fister is a solid #3 guy. Assuming Scherzer is okay. |

Max is really starting to develop from a guy that could throw to a guy that can pitch. He's always had a golden arm and has show flashes, but wasn't very consistent. He had a better ERA in 2010, but he came out and dominated the 2nd half of this season. 16-7 this season with 228 Ks in 183.2 innings pitched and an ERA of 3.82. Nice stats....but he's been kicking ass since the All Star break: 8-2 with a 2.81 ERA and a 107 K to 25 BB ratio. Justin Verlander is Justin Verlander and when Doug Fister is healthy, but is a very underrated pitcher who can hit his spots and locate his pitches with precision. Fister is 10-9 with an ERA of 3.38....but he wasn't healthy for a lot of the first half of the season and it showed. I absolutely love watching him pitch when he is on his game....like watching a 6'8 Greg Maddux. Fister is 8-3 with and ERA of 2.51 since the All Star break. The Tigers need to keep that trio together for the foreseeable future. Verlander is 29 and locked up through 2014. Scherzer is 28 and is eligible for arbitration, but won't be a free agent until 2015. Fister is 28 and I don't think he is eligible to hit the open market until 2015. BOOM!
Miggy smacked his 44th HR a few minutes ago....he now leads the American League in home runs. 2 hits so far in this game....gives him 201 hits on the season. It would be so cool to see Miggy win the Triple Crown this season. Tigers are up 2-0 and will win the division if they win this game. Finish this game out, boys and you can celebrate tonight. |

Miggy is getting pretty damn close to it. It would be kick ass to see my favorite player win the Triple Crown. Ever since I was a kid obsessed with baseball and football cards and all the records and stats, I've been waiting to see someone accomplish it. I remember back in the early to mid 80s when I was a kid, reading about Carl Yastrzemski doing it in 1967....and it seemed like a long time ago back then, even though it was less than 20 years at that time. Now it's been 45 years....even if I wasn't a Tigers fan, I'd be rooting big time for Miggy to win the Triple Crown, so I could see it happen in my lifetime. Miggy goes 4 for 5 tonight....should be enough to secure the batting title.
.329 average right now. Mike Trout at .323 and Joe Mauer at .322. Miggy already has the RBI title pretty much wrapped up. Miggy has 137 RBIs to Josh Hamilton's 127 RBIs. It's all going to come down to home runs. Miggy has 44 HRs and Josh Hamilton has 43 HRs. A tie in any of the categories would still give him the Triple Crown. |

I'm sure glad we played a great game when it mattered.....oh wait, it didn't. Good work winning a meaningless game, douches. Congrats to Detroit. Showed alot more mental toughness and was more deserving.

Thanks, SoCal....been an up and down season for the Tigers.
It didn't look like they would pull it out for a while, but they played well down the stretch and the White Sox faltered. I do think the White Sox have found their manager and they have a bright future. |

Albert Pujols with his 50th double of the season.
He rebounded from a slow start to have a nice season. Batting .288 with 50 doubles, 30 HRs, and 105 RBIs. |

I hate the White Sox. And most of the time when people hate something, it's because they're afraid of it. They're a good team and getting better. I would love to see nothing more than the Central rise to be the best division in the AL, and if it's going to happen, it's going to be with the White Sox. |

The White Sox are my least favorite team as well.
I'd love to give A.J. Pierzynski a swift kick to his nuts. They were easier to dislike when Ozzie Guillen was their manager. Ozzie still needs a hard kick to his berries too. I've got a lot of respect for Paul Konerko. I was glad to see Mark Buehrle leave the division, but also thought it was a shame he didn't finish his career with the White Sox. Mike Trout is 4 for 4 so far tonight and is lurking behind Miggy in the batting title race.
Miggy is at .329 and Mike Trout is at .325. |

Feels weird not having to watch the White Sox score tonight.
I've already looked at the score a few times out of habit. |

AJ is like Romo, you love the guy when he is on your team but can't stand him other wise. Konerko can't run but he is a great hitter and hasn't hit into as many double plays this year. I am glad the Ozzy Circus is gone. I saw Houghton's post, yes we Sox fans are much better than cub fans. cub fans are more hipster/frat boys who are just there to party and throw stuff on the field whereas Sox fans are actually into the game and expect a winning product on the field. Think of cub fans as KFC fans and you will get it. |

Edit: Trout ended up going 1-5, not 1-4.
Triple Crown Race Update: Runs Batted In: 1. Cabrera - 139 2. Hamilton - 128 Cabrera has this one sealed. Home Runs: 1. Cabrera - 44 2. Hamilton - 43 If Cabrera doesn't hit a home run tomorrow, Hamilton needs to hit 2 in order to surpass Cabrera. Batting Average: 1. Cabrera - .3306 2. Trout - .3237 Tomorrow, if Cabrera goes: 0-1 - .3301 0-2 - .3295 0-3 - .3290 0-4 - .3285 0-5 - .3280 If Trout goes: 1-1 - .3249 2-2 - .3261 3-3 - .3273 4-4 - .3285 5-5 - .3297 By the looks of it, Trout would have to go at least 4-4 to have any chance to overtake Cabrera. If Cabrera goes 0-4 and Trout goes 4-4, Cabrera would lose the Batting Title and the Triple Crown by less than .0005. The outlook is very good. Last edited by houghtam; 10-02-2012 at 10:03 PM.. |

So we should have our Triple Crown winner finally after waiting 45 years!
Trout had this thing but Cabrera wouldn't give in and went on a tear. He had a great year throughout. Good for him. |
