I doubt the Dodgers finalize a trade to get Adrian Gonzalez. They'd be stupid to take on that contract, plus the contracts of the other guys the Red Sox want to dump.

That giants sweep sent the dodgers into panic mode.

his contract isnt that big compared to other big name bats. This would be huge for the Dodgers.

And if you look at the age of the players (Kemp, Crawford, Gonzo, Ramirez and Either) you see they can build some chemistry in their primes. They still have Puig who is killing it in the minors so hopefully they can move Either for Wright in the off-season.

Good luck fielding a competitive team with so much money tied into guys. Honestly, the Red Sox are smart to be able to move the dead money in Beckett and Crawford, and then get Gonzalez's huge contract out as well to improve their pitching. |

The Sox are not getting Lee so this deal is even better IMO.

This isn't a video game where they can keep all those guys and still win.
They'll need to give Kershaw a nice contract. They are paying Kemp $20 mil a year Hanley's getting paid $15 mil a year, how much the Dodgers are paying I don't know. Gonzalez is $20 mil a year Ethier is $15 mil a year Crawford $20 mil a year Beckett $15 mil a year $105 million next year in just 6 guys, not including Kershaw even. Billingsley makes $11 mil next year, Kershaw $10 I believe Harang $7 million Ted Lilly $12 million Capuano $6 million Uribe $8 million $66 more million tied up in 6 more players. Half your roster is at $171 million already. I just don't think its a smart move at all, and just look what happened to Boston trying to nab all these supposedly high promising players with big contracts. Crashed and burned and left with dealing guys to clear up money to try to "start over" improving the team. |

The Red Sox needed to do something.....the chemistry and attitude of the current team wasn't working.

The Dodgers have 10 million dollars tied up in guys playing first right now. Gonzo is worth 10 million extra a year for his production.

This is long overdue. I can't believe we found someone willing to take these contracts off our hands. Cancers and bad fits just aren't worth the money we were giving out.
Now if we can just get someone to take Lackey off our hands in the off season, they can truly start over. |

Cardinals are beginning to roll. They need a sweep in Cincy this weekend, and they're seriously in the mix for the division.

Gonzo has been crying since day one about all the extra night games, media coverage, etc that comes with playing for the Sox. He was also one of the key guys involved in the anti-Valentine camp since day one. He's not the biggest locker room cancer, but he's been a big enough distraction that they're not going to miss him as much as they would otherwise. His numbers are also way down and not worth what they're paying him.....but they're certainly attractive enough to sweeten a deal for a team like the Dodgers to take the Crawford and Beckett salaries off their hands.
Crawford is just in the "always hurt, under performing, bad fit" category. He's been fine in the locker room and off the field. Punto's just a guy. He wasn't going to stick after this year anyway. |

You have a #1 pitcher in Kershaw, a #3 in Billingsley and then what, okay #4 and #5's? I just think the Dodgers are trying to upgrade their team the wrong way. Would you rather the Dodgers get Gonzalez and take on all these horrible contracts, or go out and get Greinke in the offseason? |
