Do you think that the right hates higher education?
Based upon the statement made by leading republicans do you think that they hate Americans' going to college and getting Bachelors or higher degree? If so why? This is based upon below and other statements by leading Republicans : In an hour-long interview with conservative television host Glenn Beck, Santorum also defended his record on abortion and his vote in favor of President George W. Bush’s No Child Left Behind education law. On the president’s efforts to boost college attendance, Santorum said, “I understand why Barack Obama wants to send every kid to college, because of their indoctrination mills, absolutely … The indoctrination that is going on at the university level is a harm to our country.” He claimed that “62 percent of kids who go into college with a faith commitment leave without it,” but declined to cite a source for the figure. And he floated the idea of requiring that universities that receive public funds have “intellectual diversity” on campus. http://news.yahoo.com/santorum-obama...221507241.html Last edited by elsid13; 02-24-2012 at 04:59 PM.. |

I think it's ignorant to single out one party while ignoring the other party in the establishment's two-party system. You're playing into their hands like good little sheep. They have ways to divide us like religion and class warfare. The entire establishment is a joke, not just Santorum. It should be easy to see they're as phony as the WWE, but some people are blinded by their passion for one side. It seems kinda silly to me, but wrestling has a lot of fans too.

I think creating the image that republicans are troglodytes who hate higher education is a very valuable tool.
Nobody with a brain puts forth candidates like Palin or Santorum in an attempt to actually win the presidency. Those behind the curtains place dummies like that in the spotlight as a way of ensuring their puppet Obama gets another 4 years in office. Look back at Bush & Co. Without that nightmare of an administration screwing up this country for 8 years the American people might actually hold Obama accountable for how horrible of a president he's been. But those smart liberals are too busy having their egos fed to be bothered about it. "Man those conservatives are dumb! Anything is better than Bush!" But all this would sort of be suggesting that American politics is rigged, and that obviously isn't true. It if were "we" would probably be doing things like starting fictitious wars, committing financial fraud on a massive worldwide scale and doping up the populace on poisonous foods and drugs. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yeah, they hate college so much as they are getting degrees themselves. One can see the forums around here are being occupied by many people with degrees with such enlightened idiotic crap.

"This is how we're going to run this country: We'll have half of our servants wear blue shirts and half wear red. First We'll put a Blue in office and have him screw things up royally. This will create so much Blue hatred in our culture that it will practically ensure that whoever we prop up as our Red puppet wins next time. Then we can just repeat the cycle ad nauseum."

Arkie and Frog have nailed it. Politics in America are a scam. If you don't realize it you're a tool.

The reason that ITU wants to monitor the whole Internet is basically for Cyber Security. The problem is who watches the watchers? Do you, an American, want 190 other nations drilling into your aggregated data? The whole question about education should be about end game. How do we compete? |

Have you ever wondered why all the "Great Presidents" were during a time when the country had a smaller population to choose from? The new Republic even had less experience dealing with difficult issues. Those great Presidents weren't more qualified leaders. They were just more sincerely dedicated to the people. Now we have a population of over 300 million people, and we don't even have a real candidate for the people. A potential leader will never get close to the top without catering to the establishment.

This entire discussion is about as stupid as if I were to ask the question: Do all modern democrats support the Eugenics movement of the early 20th century? With the exception of Cass Sunstein, I think the answer would be no.
I will support my children in their effort to get as much education as they need to support their family, and as much as they want for the sake of learning. The only question that would give me pause as a parent is whether or not a particular university system (that I am paying thousands for) is providing a well-rounded education or is propaganda that is openly bigoted and hostile toward issues and persons of faith. Both my undergraduate work and my masters were received at typical "low-brow" state schools, but I assume that not all ivy league schools are created equal in their ability to be open minded on these issues. |

PS - "Bigoted", in evangeli-speak, meaning "skeptical of religious belief and not accepting it without question", of course. One thing religionoids hate - thinking. |

I couldnt imagine that you would be so narrow...but some within educational circles are unable to live and let live. I think discussion of a multiplicity of ideas is a healthy thing. My beef is with those of any stripe with an irrational hatred of people and things that are different than them -- |

One authority that most people are terrified of questioning is themselves. If you do not re-evaluate your own premises from time to time you not only become irrelevant but completely wrong because you do not understand that the context of the question has changed.

Santorum, whose name aptly comes from the same Latin root as sanctimonious, went on Glenn Beck’s Web-based show with his family and offered this lunacy: “I understand why Barack Obama wants to send every kid to college,” because colleges are “indoctrination mills” that “harm” the country. He evidently wants home university schooling, which will cut down on keggers.
