Default My band is playing the NAMM show tonight!

For those that don't know it's the biggest music industry event in the country, held each yr at the Anaheim convention center.

So the band i run, BOXCAR 7, is playing the lobby of the Hilton Hotel, the one right by the convention center, from 8-9 pm.

The funny thing about NAMM is you never know what kind of music you will get. I think before us is some newly signed country singer from Nashville, then after us is a musician named WILLIE K. A big guy from Hawaii who i guess is big over on the islands. Then last of the night someone told me is an all girl Van Halen tribute band called Hot For Teacher lol! Only in LA! or in this case OC.

The lobby shows are open to the public so if you are an OC local and don't mind the rain you can come and check it out.

Soon i will be off to walk the floor looking at gear and pretend I belong lol. Really though all the greatest musicians are everywhere and it's a pretty humbling experience, but still a great time. You will see like a 6 yr old Chinese girl playing Mozart on a piano or violin that sounds almost perfect. Like a 50 yr old player. It's amazing how talented some people are.

Last yr I met Stevie Wonder! and tons of famous sax players. People always ask me did you see Kenny G, yes every yr he loves it because he's the only sax player non sax players seem to know lol! But he's richer then god now and will have like 50 people around him at all times. Meanwhile when I met Larry Carlton, famous guitar player, it was me and him grabbing a beer, not a lot of people knew who he was.

Another funny thing is everyone gets a badge. It's funny seeing someone famous like Synyster Gates from AV7 with a badge on that says Synyster Gates on it lol! He went to my HS by the way and is the coolest hard rocker you will ever meet. Not that he would remember me I only met him once.

All the hotels will have tons of music going all night long, so it's going to be a huge party.

The Dimebag Darrell tribute show a few years ago was excellent. You can spend all day walking the floor and still not see everything. Have a great time today/tonight.

Thanks for the encouragement. Got some nervous energy, butterflies, but once the lights get in your eyes it sort of helps you block out the crowd.

Cut, my family andI have been going to an after show party for a couple of years now in Anaheim. Mostly older dudes with a few 30 somethings but they jam in the garage with chairs all around. Great times and they play mostly blues or 60/70s rock music (not ****ty 70s music I must say). Just a ton of musicians jamming it up. Never seen a sax player there but your basic guitars, keyboard, drums and electric harmonica player. If interested next year, it is on the Friday in Anaheim. I can find out if they accept sax players. You just need to pick up on what they play and go at it.

So the show kicked ass although we had one **** up. . We kicked a song off and the drummer was playing a different song from the band. he quickly recovered. He printed his set list wrong, which is really funny because he is the one who made the set list and is super anal and a perfectionist. Our drummer is a rep for Paiste cymbals, and a ton of heavy hitting pro drummers where in the crowd, and he got a bit nervous i think.

Really cool because after the show Skunk Baxter was in the elevator with our keyboard player and he said he really enjoyed our set. He played with Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan. He was upstairs in a private show for another company playing before or after? Steve Vai and friends lol. So just really a treat for us part time pro musicians to get to hang out with some of the big boys in the music industry.

Not sure if the dude was for real i didn't catch his name. But a black gentlemen, about 70 yrs old, came up to me and said he played tenor sax with Jackie Wilson and that hearing my band brought back memories of when he was playing. So I feel sort of like Tebowing right now and can't remember really anytime in my life i was having more fun then I am right now.

Thanks for all the compliments I appreciate that. But cmon people skin flute jokes. HA HA just so you know we were all dorks in HS in the band, but the chicks really were like that at band camp. We couldn't bang the cheerleaders so we had to settle for tall flag, flute players, and the drill team.
