President Obama announced a new military strategy on Thursday that will cut the Pentagon budget by hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade.

Good.

The DoD is the biggest source of waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government.

The DoD Defense Budget make up 20% (that doesn't include the War Supplement Funds) of the annual Federal Budget.

Medicare/Medicad is is 22%
Social Security is 20%
National Interest is 6%

That over 60% of the budget.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget...Id=budget-full

So unless we are willing to allow the Bush Tax Cuts to expire, and close tax breaks, we need to reduce defense spending.

Of the top 50 military spending nations in the world, we spend more than the other 49 combined. I don't think these cuts are going to put much of dent in our lead.

Hmm, so while there is high unemployment, we will now make it less of an option for those to join the military too where they could have had jobs that way. The bozo in the WH is the Jobs President though. What a idiot joke as well as his supporters. He and his dullards are just making sure more and more people are dependent on social welfare programs.

You rightards are a bunch of hypocrites. You are all for spending cuts, as long as it's a program you don't like that helps poor people. Pathetic.

Somebody finally got Eisenhower's memo.

Cutting Defense and investing in Higher Education will make this country strong again.

It's amazing how often you evangelical right wingers complain about overseas wars and can whine about cutting the absurdly bloated military in the same breath.

Make your ****ing minds up, you're giving the impression that you're all stupid.

You can't reduce government without reducing the military. Got it??

I've heard 25k Army and 20k Marines will be fired, resulting in a few billion saved/yr down the road, and hiring of more special forces. But that's essentially meaningless savings with meaningful reduction in capability. Let me know when the rest of the $48bill to $98billion/year in cuts is outlined so a discussion can take place on Little-O's priorities and the effects on our Military, international presence, terrorism industrial complex and military industry because what's been revealed so far is about as relevant and interesting as the water usage of various flowers in front of the Capitol.

Until something worth while hits print, this thread will remain just a political and academic soapbox with the usually adolescent and idiotic whining, inciting and fingerpointing by the psychotic liberal faction of d-bags here.

The Right Wing is attacking Obama for carrying out Rumsfeld's military plan and passing the Heritage Foundation's health care plan.

I tell ya. We're living in Wonderland.
