Default Division-Round scouting; Buf vs NE game

I'm guessing NE loses this and the Steelers win today, meaning the Broncos face off against the Pats after beating the Ravens in the Wildcard round. Right now, Buf is up 21-7 in the 2nd and easily moving the ball against NE's terrible defense.

A couple weeks ago, it was very obvious the Broncos had a great gameplan for beating the Pats, then dogged the rest of the game to hide those plans. When Denver wanted to move the ball and score points, they did. When they wanted to stuff the Pats, they did. The rest of the time the playcalling on both sides was a very vanilla and ineffective. Afterward, Fox said something along the lines of, sometimes losses can lead to greater things.

While the Pats are very well know quantity - give Brady time to complete slants/stops to Welker or seem/deep crosses/outs to the TEs - and their weaknesses apparent - ineffective running attack unless it gets the corner and a secondary playing prevent due to nonexistent skill - this game against Buf is another opportunity to observe any changes they may have made, though their likely not to show much just as the Broncos didn't in preparation for the playoffs.

Pats don't seem to have any man-blocking skills, even on sweeps, but a pulling guard up the middle rumbled pretty good. That'll be up to Mays to stop.

Welker has been getting pummled. I doubt they'll keep throwing him the ball and why the TEs have been used so much this year. Like Royal, he's not big enough to be a #1 WR and take the hits.

Bills - Fitzpatrick is having alot of success just hucking the ball up and letting his receivers beat the NE DBs. Bodes well for us if Decker and Thomas can come down with it.
The Bills don't have a very good OL, yet are still handling NE's 3DTs and blitzes. Saw Fitzpatrick hand off up the middle on an option play earlier. Wonder if they'll ever use that.

I guess you are figuring Baltimore loses today and if we faced Pittsburgh or Baltimore in first round it will be ugly. We don't fare well with the Barry switzer offense against good defenses.

The difference between royal and welker is 100 plus catches and 1500 yds and possible hof.

This. It's crazily over optimistic, to not only assume we're going to beat the Chiefs but our first round opponent.

Halftime = Bills up 21-14
Could have been 24 or 28 - 14, but they got sloppy at the end.

As bad as the Pats looked against the Broncos, and now against the Bills, it's amazing how far above 8-8 they'll finish this year. Especially when their entirely one-dimensional (Brady) and everyone knows how easy it is to punk him.

M.Tyler - "Did we beat the Chiefs?"

Re; No. They beat themselves when they put their faith in Orton. The Broncos just reveal that.

Re; Uh, yeah. Where you been the last five years, strutting a Boston cheerleading skirt? Crash the middle with a blitz and he poops himself. Then he goes to a 7step drop to protect his glass-gina. Outside rushers then start upfield before crashing in to either sack, strip or force Brady into bad throws. Same thing that works so well against Orton, works against Brady. Orton just throws more picks or gets sacked trying to stumble out of the pocket.

Pats have switched to a 4-3 nickle, trying and get more pressure to protect their DBs. The Broncos saw this in the 1st quarter a couple weeks ago. It's basically 4DTs with one in a 2point stance and two ILBs.

Looked to make Fitzpatrick nervous, but the Bills ran right through it when they tried, just as we did.

------------*edit-------------
Went back to their 3-4. Probably just used the 4-3 as a 1-time gimmick, not for effect.

Pats apparently have a dual screen - faked a TE bubble screen left before the real RB screen right. Went big by catching the LBs off guard. Put that play in the DC's scouting film.

Not a Pats report, but an updated opinion -
Been kind of undecided about Fitzpatrick until this game and the last against the Broncos. Now, I think it's safe to put him in the same category as Eli, Sanchez, Flacco, Orton, Cassel and maybe a few others = It'll be a rare year if they can play good enough, consistently enough for their team to make it to, or do well in, the playoffs.

Especially when you consider how awful we've been of late...

Boomhauer really is the best gimmick on the board right now.

You realize New England plays 4-3 not 3-4 as base right?
