Default Skycam Crashes to Earth

Don't know how many watched the Insight Bowl last night (boring game). The skycam crash was about the most exciting thing that happened in the game. I've always wondered about the safety of these cameras hovering over the players.

Just like my beloved Hawkeyes hopes and dreams...we had no business being in that bowl anyhow.

I can't believe they didn't have SOMEBODY out there to disconnect the equipment from the cables - they choose to drag it across the ground instead?

Not the way my risk management plan would have responded to that trigger, for sure.

My guess is that would have caused a bigger problem. Those things are often suspended from high points in the stadium, so disconnecting it might have left a cable dangling down among the fans.

Nope.

Each cable end gets a "minder" whose job it is to escort the end of the cable through the stands to where it can be safely disconnected, or at worst, retracted to where it isn't in anyone's way. (just sitting here sucking on a Ranger and I came up with this) I'm sure a multi-billion dollar industry could come up with a better plan than dragging the camera, gyros, and linkage over to the sideline.

That equipment is easily worth paying a few grunts to mind some cables, IMO.
