Extending Unemployment Benefits Will Create 600,000 Jobs--200,000 More Than Obamacare!

It's people like Nan and Debbie Wasserman that provide hours and hours of Democratic ridicule. How any sane Dem can claim these two is a mystery for the ages.

The fact that not a single media member asked some...ANY follow up question about the inane foolishness of this statement speaks volumes.

Quote:
As macroeconomic advisers have stated, it would make a difference of 600,000 jobs to our economy.” Pelosi did not name those “macroeconomic advisers.”
Reminds me of this:

Being employed by the poor must be working out for you. Please tell us more.

Typical deflection. Obama is already giving businesses that are buddies with government goodies, but that is somehow acceptable since for the warped and partisan bozos, it is the companies who dare to make a profit without government help or bailouts that are "evil."

That comes from some economists ( I watch a lot of CNBC and Bloomberg) who feel that the money paid for UE benefits will come back to Americans in creating new work or at least saving existing work. There's no doubt that it happens to a point but there is no way to predict accurate numbers I know of and her putting 600,000 out there is probably nonsense.

Quote:
This is a fairly testable hypothesis. The last time Congress extended the jobless benefits was a year ago, in another crunch-time compromise between Republicans and Democrats on Pennsylvania Avenue. Since then, the economy has added about 1.5 million jobs — an average of 125,000 a month, which is only enough to keep up with population growth. Assuming that Pelosi’s correct and we subtract 600,000 from the 2011 numbers, the Obama adminstration’s economic policies would account for growth that falls well below that of population maintenance — at only 75,000 per month.

I have a relative that lives in New Jersey and worked for a company that repaired and installed ATM machines (union member). He had surgery to repair a valve in his heart and went on disability, it was later determined that he was able to return to work and his disability was cut off. He has since filed for unemployment and has been drawing it for as long as Obama has been in office. He sits at home all day and plays on the computer and watches TV while his wife works. He has absolutely no intention of going back to work until his unemployment is stopped. Trust me, he is all for Nancy Pelosi's stand on extending unemployment benefits. Is this a great country or what?

Is he able to go back to work ? just becasue the insurance company cut him off doesnt mean hes able.

I was off for 6 months when i was first diagnosed with crohns, i was cut off my insurance at the 2 month mark, so there i am first week in june in the hospital, im 6 foot 4 and i was 107 pounds, when i get the letter that im cut off, why, becasue when i first filled out the paperwork the doctors thought that the first treatment method was going to work, and saw no reason that i wouldnt be back to work in a couple months.

So without requesting any additional paperwork or anything, i was cut off, I got the notice a week after i was supposed to get my last cheque. I had to re apply, get all the paperwork filled out. Thank god i had some savings, and parents and inlaws that were more then willing to help out, because it was late august before i got another cheque from them.

I dont doubt that there are people that are sitting at home waiting until the absolutely have to, but i dont think its fair to assume that everybody on unemployment is that way. I really dont trust insurance companies to judge who is ready to work when, i mean they have a bit of a conflict in that the sooner they get you back to work the more money they get to keep.

so if the insurance cuts you off you are able to return to work ? Friend of mine was a in a truck accident , while he is better now , he doesnt have the endurance to work full time , he just drags down after a couple of hours .So giving your logic on this would you be ok with someone like that driving 40+ tonnes on 18 wheels near your family ?

I know a ton of people that have been on unemployment for a long time. They say better to get free money then work for the same amount at a job that doesn't pay what their old one used to.

They need a law stating if you do work, and it's less then you used to make, you can get a supplemental unemloyment to make up difference for 6 mos etc etc, anything to get people to work and not just take.

I'd say he needs retraining and a new career most likely. But just letting him rot on unemployment doesn't seem like it helps him long term either does it?

He could probably find a federal job created to try and manage all the unemployed.

Hmmm I am not expert on retraining or backs Spider. I would think something like computer operations, customer service, maybe like a resipitory therapist? or maybe even what i do on the side be a paralegal? Or maybe go back to school and be a teacher? A girl i know that lost her foot to cancer is a court reporter, she makes good money but its hard to get fast enough on the machine typewriter thingy then people think.

I wish your friend good luck, nothing worst then a bad back man, that is a killer trying to go through life in pain.

Well, no. I just think it would be smarter to tell someone you can work, and if its not what your previous job made, unemployment makes the difference up for say 6 months to a yr. At least that way people work.

Many don't because unemployment pays the same as any job they could get. It makes more sense to wait for a better job and sit at home, collecting.

The whole idea that poor people driving around in fancy cars on welfare is rare and not the norm, so don't put words in my mouth. I am open minded and you are a close minded partisan, so don't start up with me.

Yes he's perfectly capable of going back to work and with his job skills and experience he wouldn't have a problem getting a job in his field. If the unemployment check is cut off he will have a job the next day.

IMO that means he should still be on disability. He needs a new doctor, what doctor wouldn't sign someone on to disability if he cant dress himself. I am conservative, but if someone was working, gets injured, and truly can't even move well enough to dress himself, then he should be on disability.

We need to get the people who can walk around, and are only not going to work because they feel a new job will never pay what the old one did etc etc.

So what you are saying is your relative is bum with no work ethic. Go kick his ass and tell him to get a job just like you've been telling freeloaders to do.
