Canada's environment minister says the country is pulling out of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change.

Peter Kent said Monday that Canada is invoking the legal right to withdraw.

Canada, joined by Japan and Russia, said last year it will not accept new Kyoto commitments, but renouncing the accord is another setback to the treaty concluded with much fanfare in 1997. No nation has formally renounced the protocol.

The protocol, initially adopted in Kyoto, Japan, in 1997, is aimed at fighting global warming. Canada's previous Liberal government signed the accord but Prime Minister Stephen Harper Conservative government never embraced it.

Harper's Conservative government is reluctant to hurt Canada's booming oil sands sector.

This just supports my contention that humans are little more than crazy apes. From the beginning, when we first started to understand what climate change might do, I thought that human beings would never change a thing in order to deal with it. Why? Because the crazy apes, like most primates, can't see beyond their next meal. Sure, there are some out there who understand what is coming; Failed crops, droughts, floods, rising sea levels, starvation, migration..., and they are willing to do something about it, but the trogs will block them. Why? Because they cannot accept change. Literally, they cannot evolve.

It's like that guy living on Spirit Lake next to Mount St. Helens. The geologists were telling him to get out, that the mountain was going to blow, and what did he do? He told them, "Spirit Lake is in between me and the mountain, and the mountain is a mile away, the mountain ain't gonna hurt me... boy." He was getting fan mail from trogs all over the country who were celebrating how he stood his ground and told the gubmint and them goldurn scientists where to put it. Now he's buried under about three hundred feet of ash.
