I've never been more pleased to start this thread. I'm STOKED for hoops to be back. With that said, the stories...
![]() The lockout is over! Good to be back, and Starting off on Christmas will be pretty cool I think. I mean, my opinion is certainly skewed, because I was always going to come back no matter what. But I'm excited to not lose too many games, and be back and playing. We never really discussed it on the board I don't think, but I was on the owner's side, to an extent. I don't care how much these guys make, I really don't. Give the players 100% of the BRI for all I care. My issue was I thought there needed to be fundamental changes to how the NBA does business; a hard cap, less guaranteed contracts, maybe a franchise tag so players can't hold franchises hostage. A more NFL-esque model. Moving on... ![]() Speaking of holding franchises hostage, both of these guys will be on the move it looks like. Awesome. Who knows where they go or what the compensation will be like. Speaking of a team that dealt it's star player last year... ![]() ...We come to the boys in blue. Are we a player or two away? Yeah. Do we need a "superstar?" Maybe. But I like our team. Real young, and hopefully they can improve. Love Ty Lawson and Arron Afflalo. Definitely need Danilo to step his game up. Very excited to see rookies Kenneth Faried and Jordan Hamilton. Kenyon and J.R. are in China, but they were never going to re-sign anyways. Having Wilson Chandler stuck in China, however, is kind of a bummer. There's also the Nene issue, which I'm confused by. Every time I watch him, I'm frustrated and unimpressed. The more I read, however, the more people are making him out to be the biggest player on the market. What am I missing? Other Topics: -The China Issue: Having free agents just pop in mid-season could be quite interesting. Who signs a guy like J.R. Smith in March? Good teams who want a boost? Bad teams who need any kind of talent? -The Heat: Where do they go from last year's Finals disappointment? -The Mavs: Can they defend their crown? -The Lakers, Celts: Aging teams, do they have a run in them? |

CP3 is showing exactly why the masses didnt care when they were locked out.
Players think they run the league, and the funny thing is, its the players that havent won ****. |

I completely see your point. I love the NBA but even for me it's a turn off. Exactly why I was hoping for more franchise control when it comes to this. A franchise tag, etc.

Maybe when the games start, I will give a damn again. The entire strike/lock out turned me off to hoops.

If the league controlled Hornets trade Paul to New York all hell will break loose. Probably bigger than the Ewing draft lotto conspiracy.
Looks like Nene is gone. Not worth close to the $17 million he is asking. Excited to see Faried play though. Hope the rebounds transfer to the NBA. Nene sucked at rebounding. Would be happy if Nuggets just made the playoffs at this point with all the players we lost. |

Sure hope so. He looked pretty good in the big tourney. If he can keep up the 14.5 boards he averaged at Moorehead State he will almost double Nene's boards.

I like Nene, and to some extent Carmelo's ball hogging cost him a lot in terms of touches, etc. His scoring and rebounding umbers both went up after melo left. Not worth 17, though. I wonder what Tyson Chandler wants.

This SI article says around $20.7m for Chandler. Crazy money that he won't get.

Rebounding is more a mindset than a skill, so the people who take pride in it usually can do it at all levels. |

The luxury tax being increased should help a lot. But it doesn't go into effect, until two seasons...
Nuggets will probably struggle, will be a young team. Hoping they get something for Nene in trade.. more picks for the great 2012 draft class, and maybe a prospect. Need to keep Afflalo though. Hope Gallinari, Lawson, Afflalo, Hamilton and Faried all continue to get better. Faried's game should translate very well; his offensive play and in particular free throw shooting needs a lot of work. Still shocked he fell to us at #22. |

Sigh; I know. We'll see how it plays out. I mean, it seems like there is definitely have more restrictions on how contracts can be offered via extensions, the MLE, and in sign-and-trade deals, and maybe those rules have the intended consequences. It appears, at least how I'm reading it, that they're trying to make it more lucrative for a player to stay put. We'll see if the almighty dollar sways player feelings.
From my initial post, it was probably insane to expect those types of major overhauls. But again, hopefully the new rules help in making it competitive for all. |

The following teams are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay under the 2011-12 salary cap:
1. Washington: $34.4 million (including Lewis' amnesty clause) 2. Denver: $33 million (including Harrington's A.C.) 3. Indiana: $28.5 million (including Posey's A.C.) 4. Sacramento: $26.2 million 5. New Jersey: $23.1 million (including Outlaw's A.C.) 6. Toronto: $17.7 million (including Calderon's A.C.) 7. Golden State: $16 million (including Biedrins' A.C.) 8. Detroit: $14-$19 million (depends on Villanueva, Gordon or Hamilton for its A.C.) 9. L.A. Clippers: $13.1 million 10. Charlotte: $13 million (including Diop's A.C.) 11. New Orleans: $12.6 million 12. Milwaukee: $12.2 million (including Udrih's A.C.) 13. Minnesota: $11.4 million (including Webster's A.C.) ... • Three teams (Denver, Indiana and Sacramento) definitely have to spend just to hit that $49 million floor (amnesty or no amnesty). http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/...-nba-christmas |
