Just heard on NFL radio that Chester McGlockton passed away from a heart attack this morning at age 42. Very young, very sad.

Wow! That's way too early. He's one of Stanford's defensive coaches. What a shock.

damn...RIP

There is stunning and heartbreaking news coming out of Palo Alto Wednesday afternoon, with Stanford announcing the passing of one of head coach David Shaw‘s assistant coaches.

In a release, the Cardinal announced that defensive assistant Chester McGlockton passed away overnight at the age of 42. No cause of death was given.

“Everyone in the Stanford Football family is deeply saddened by the passing of Chester McGlockton,” Shaw said in a statement. “For the past two seasons, Chester has been a valuable member of our football staff and a wonderful friend to us all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Chester’s wife Zina and their two children.”

McGlockton, who played his college football at Clemson, was hired by Jim Harbaugh in 2010 and remained on Shaw’s staff when his former boss left for the San Francisco 49ers. The release goes on to state that McGlockton was a first-round pick (16th overall) of the Los Angeles Raiders in 1992, McGlockton played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Raiders (1992-97), Kansas City Chiefs (1998-00), Denver Broncos (2001-02) and New York Jets (2003). He made all four of his Pro Bowl appearances while with the Raiders (1994, ’95, ’96 and ’97).

Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to McGlockton’s family, friends and anyone else impacted by his passing.

Bad week for big fat guys. Patrice O'Neal died yesterday.

I thought McGlockton quietly did a good job teaming up with Trevor Pryce at DT from 2001-02. I recall back then he entered a NFL offseason program that has designed to help players transition into coaching after their career was over and he took part in that.

It was fun to play him as a rival and I always respected the fact that he finally went to the good side.

Props to this site for keeping it classy in this thread. One rival AFC West message board has some really disgusting comments regarding this tragedy.

RIP. Much too young.

Yet another reminder that life is indeed short and we should and could be a little kinder to one another along the way.

Without ever going over there, it is obvious you speak of the Chiefs board. Why anyone would go there and give them the clicks is beyond me. They have never had class from what I have heard and seen from the cut n paste other members bring over.

Way to young.

I remember his first Pro-Bowl season, guy could absolutely dominate whenever he wanted to. Had me worried having to face him twice a year. For some reason though, he never reached the sustained level that he flashed at times. Even in Denver he had moments where he flashed dominance at times. Just never quite understood what happened to him on the field.

Prayers go out to his family.
