Default The Rex Ryan 46 defense...

Interesting, relatively technical, article (from last years draft) about the Rex Ryan 46 defense.

The Jets play press-man coverage, it helps create time for the pass rush to get to the QB since the WRs have a slower release, but if you have a really big strong WR who can ragdoll the CB it can help create early seperation.

"Just matching them up on paper, I think the Jets match up great against Denver’s offense," said Matt Williamson from Scouts Inc. "The Jets can play so much man that I think they can put a lot of defenders around the line of scrimmage. I could see Ryan doing some very unique things."

The zone read invites you to do that and creates seperation within the box. So...ok. I'm not saying they can't stop it, but the guys around the LOS still need to account for Tebow which, the past couple of weeks, has been freezing the weakside end and linebacker.

WR WR T/T/G/C/G/TE

QB-RB ** lined up behind center

You have no other choice than to crowd the line

I would expect five down lineman regularly for the Jets in this game.

I think the best counter to the Jets is 3 and 4 wide sets and bunch formations, it forces them out of the base package which has a lot of talent and it is much more difficult to jam on the inside than on the outside.

Rex Ryan has proven nothing.

His defense with the Jets is consistently overrated. Its not actually his defense, its his dad's defense. Except that his dad ran it well.

Let them talk the noise. They've never been able to back it up before, what makes anyone believe that they'll be able to now?

It'll be a closer game than people are expecting. Sanchez isn't exactly lighting teams up.

I totally agree.

They will be running Shonn Greene and Sanchez is their QB.

The teams' star players are Nick Mangold and Revis. Both of whom are a tad overrated.

The Broncos fans will be ready to explode tomorrow night and the team is starting to come together.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a similar game to the last Broncos/Raiders game.

He's gone 9-7 (with a rookie QB) and 11-5 and won 4 playoff games in his first two years coaching the Jets. Clearly he sucks as a coach...

He isn't near the defensive guru that he'd have you believe.

What was Mocks famous defense? It was something like the 2-5-4 or something. That is what they need to even touch Tebus

We REALLY need McGahee to be healthy. The weakness that they can exploit is going to be up the middle. Holding the ends and getting our quick interior linemen to that second level should open up some creases for our running backs.

Lance Ball, as much as I appreciate what he's done this year, has pretty poor vision. Watching the KC game again I found several plays that would have been BIG ones for McGahee. On a couple of occasions he got to the second level and turned towards the defense, when the opposite direction was nothing but daylight.

If McGahee can go (and be effective) he's much better at finding those seams and exploiting them. Hopefully a week of film will help Ball out as well.

I don't see any reason this offense can't move the ball effectively against a Jets team that is strongest on the outside. I don't think we'll see Tebow go for 100 yards, but I do think the zone read can work against this defense.

I think the best way to stop the defense is let them stop themselves. Run the no huddle all night don't let them sub guys they can be broken by halftime.

The Patriots did that.

I'm interested to see what the no-huddle Broncos run game would look like.
