On the eve of training camp, when word leaked of a proposed Kyle Orton trade to Miami, fans prepared eagerly for the change at quarterback that would follow. When the deal fell through and Fox named Orton his starter, it looked as if Orton, by failing to come to terms with the Dolphins on a new contract, was being allowed to determine who would play quarterback for the Broncos. The club's explanation for the abrupt about-face was the odious phrase, "best chance to win."

With the team at 1-2 heading into a date with the defending champions, that claim is beginning to sound disturbingly like Charlie Sheen on a crack cocaine binge: "Winning! Duh!"

If a low-scoring, losing NFL team can't find a way to get Tim Tebow in the game, then new coach John Fox is a stubborn goat so stuck in the 1970s and so hopelessly out of touch with his fan base that one might begin to wonder why the Broncos hired him in the first place.

All we're saying is: Give Tebow a chance.

"I'm figuring out this team," Fox said Monday, after his beat-up defense grudgingly surrendered 17 points to Tennessee, but Denver coaches weren't innovative enough to find the end zone when it really mattered.

Fox doesn't have it figured out? Really? That sounds like nonsense Josh McDaniels might have uttered after his third game in charge of an NFL franchise. But the excuse doesn't fly for a veteran coach. This isn't on-the-job training. They're keeping score.

"We're still learning about our team," Fox said.

At the outset of the fourth quarter, as the Denver offense stood with a first down a scant 2 yards from the Tennessee end zone and eyed the opportunity to put away the Titans, I was wiping barbecue sauce from my chin in a sports bar 1,159 miles away from Nashville. A woman in a corner booth shouted at the television screen: "Put in Tebow!"

Fox obviously couldn't hear the lady. Tebow watched helplessly on the sideline as Denver took four futile shots at a touchdown. There was one incomplete pass. Three straight runs inside the tackles. No points. No Tebow.

"Every play is a consideration," Fox said. "When they work, you're a genius. And when they don't, you're an idiot."

Hey, John. We've got it figured out.

You don't need to know an X from an O to see quarterback Kyle Orton owns a 6-19 record in his past 25 starts. Even a knucklehead like myself can understand Orton could use a little help in the red zone from Tebow. When ticket-buyers are far ahead of the coach on the learning curve, it's probably a dangerous place for Fox to act like he knows best.

I'm sure that we will get a coach that is smarter than your average fan again, someday. Even most of the Tebow haters are starting to turn.

honestly, at this point... don't put him in Fox. keep him on the bench as the Broncos under Orton stumble and bumble their way to a 1-15 mark. then come this offseason after you've traded him for a box of rocks to whatever team can actually see the forest through the trees, you and Elway and Xanders can explain to the fans why you really didn't want to play him... and then the fans can vote with their wallets.

I like how Foxs logic can be compared to a coked out Sheen. He gives us the best chance to win as long as you don't live in reality! We aren't playing for the future, we have a SB team right here!

Give Orton some credit. He can definitely muster two more wins the rest of the season.

um...yeah Kyle... and you are 100% at scoring TDs in the redzone, except for those times when you don't. maybe Kyle has a little bit too much self-esteem. maybe he really thinks he's an elite QB. has he ever taken the blame for a loss here? i don't recall. has he ever said during postgame interviews that a loss was 100% on him and its his job to play better?

The Colts are offering their 3rd round pick to Denver and a case of Jack to Orton for the guarantee that Kyle does not play for the Colts in the future, ever.

At least we know the QB situation is all on Fox. There have been people trying to claim Elway makes starter decisions instead of just who is on the team. Well, not according to him. This wss pretty obvious though. Fox loves ****ty QBs. I just hope Elway gets rid of Orton this offseason so Fox can't play him in future years. If Elway lets him, Fox will stick with ****ty QB forever. The one huge downside to hiring Fox...

During preseason, when I asked Fox about the Broncos' quarterback competition, he said: "I prefer a 'gamer' to a good practice player . . . I want someone who will execute under pressure in a game."
Orton is a good practice player.
He is not a gamer. His overall record as the Broncos' starter is 12-19. The team has won four of Orton's last 20 — a winning percent of 20. He is 0.00 percent when the team trails by three or more at halftime.
"Right now, in our opinion, Kyle Orton gives us the best chance to win," Fox reiterated this week.
The Orton Ordeal will continue in Green Bay.

I agree with Krieger and Kiszla here. But at the same time I think it's funny that a lot of you are always complaining about how the Denver media is in the back pocket of the Broncos and now you're posting articles that show they clearly aren't...

I posted these articles. Try finding a single time I have claimed they were in the back pockets of anyone. The only claim I have made is that some make **** up and most of them aren't very smart.

Want to see the Mike Klis column where he said the Broncos will win 1 of the next 2 games? He had em going 11-5 at the beginning of the year. That dude clearly is. He sucked Mcd off for 2 years and now he's sucking these guys off every chance he gets.

Think anyone who claims Kiszla and Krieger are don't read them very often.
