He's not going to get drafted.

Teams will be hesitant to bring him in as an UDFA as well. UDFA's get unceremoniously cut more often than not. When/if that happened to Sam, people uneducated about the process of making a team will be protesting at camp and create a ridiculous side-show. The assumption will be that him not making a team was because of sexual preference instead of on the field abilities.

Sam isn't nearly talented enough to warrant that type of circus. Seems like a decent kid though.

If he can contribute and make the team better than bring him in. I don't care if he is gay, bi, straight or likes farm animals, if he can play I am fine with him. If he can't play or make a contribution then let someone else have him. I could care less what or who a person is doing off the field.

The Redskins should draft him and make a big deal out of it.

"Michael Sam is ready for the NFL, but is the NFL ready for him?"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/0...n_5299198.html

Headlines like this are one of the many reasons why teams won't bring the kid in. In media circles, the assumption will already be that if he gets cut, it will be discriminatory in nature.

Right or wrong, GMs aren't going to invite that drama into camp for an athletically limited situational pass-rusher without an NFL position.

The drama would last 5 seconds. Was there even a second of drama around Jason Collins? It's not a story with any legs. It would go away in a week

Had this been 2010, I'd have said **** it, bring him in. Build a new locker room for him, Tebow, and the media.

Not this year though. I'm confident Elway will not invite that circus back after getting rid of it 2 years ago.

He would do the interview circuit after getting cut and it would cycle for weeks and weeks and weeks.

Bottom line is there isn't enough of a reward to go along with the PR risk of cutting him.

I'm not rooting for the kid to fail, just how I read the tea leaves.

I disagree. No story lasts for weeks anymore. Did we learn nothing from the Riley cooper sitch?

Unless he rapes someone in the shower, the story is leg less. Don't you remember his combine interview? Lasted 5 min. Once the team says "we're cool, we stand by him" the story is over

If I understand this comment correctly, you are changing the channel because you can't stand looking at "his little boyfriend"?

If I am understanding your comment correctly, go **** yourself.

No I am changing the channel cause they are turning him and his little boyfriend into a side show. Using him. I don't like it.

He'd be a good fit with Buffalo, Washington, or San Francisco.

If he wasn't gay, would he be drafted? I think someone would take a flyer on the SEC D of the year. Selections now are all luck anyway. Lets see if he gets picked up.

E!SPN is a fricken sick joke. They just use any bit of drama or info to get rating.
While I was watching earlier a guy from ND a DE I think was drafted and apparently he was convicted of some kind of rape case at another school. Wingo brought it up, and actually named the girl in question. Unreal. 1st and last name.

Interestingly since he came out a few months ago, according the NFL network he's turned down all interviews. His evaluation on the NFL network seems pretty positive but also shows his flaws and explains his limitations as a player. But based on the analysis he sounds pretty limited in terms of what we'd need from him. He's most likely a special teams player based on the analysis. The comparison in the NFL is Trent Cole according to the analysis as far as player ability.
